Will you be able to get perfect lip synch with an asynchronous USB DAC? Where and how large will the glitches (timing errors) be if the computer clock running the video is slightly off from the clock in the DAC?
I meant syncing.
Regardless of technology used managing the sound (streaming using Ethernet or async USB to just take two examples), lip sync going to be an issue. You either let the sound act as master controlling the video or the opposite. Add to that the more or less mandatory delay feature and you end up with a less than straight forward implementation, if you not use HDMI that manage sync and handshake between all units.

Using a PC with DAC (inbuilt, USB, async USB or connected using cable) most media software’s manage all this before splitting the sound and video.
With async USB, likely you need a modified media server software that use the sound as master. Even if the async USB pull data from the PC, it should not be that difficult to indirectly sync with the video.
Not maybe perfect but good enough.

Of the same reason it's not too difficult to sync sound and video using a DS.
It's all about musical understanding!
