Superkikkin

Post by lejonklou »

A new analogue preamp with two pairs of inputs and one pair of outputs is now making its way into production.

Its name is Superkikkin, housed in an Entity/Slipsik/Giella-sized case and remote controlled with no physical buttons on the front. The design shares many details with the original Kikkin, which was introduced in 2008 and discontinued ten years ago. But Superkikkin has a new level of musicality, thanks to a total redesign and many new components and techniques.

A few parts from the original Kikkin proved difficult to replace, it just couldn't be done without a loss of sound quality. This limits the number of Superkikkins to 100 units, because I had exactly enough of an obsolete film capacitor to make that number and one prototype.

As I mentioned here: viewtopic.php?p=68292#p68292
we've had an in-house battle between team Giella ∏ and team Superkikkin. And although the battle may rage on in the future, the current winner is: Superkikkin!

Interesting :)
I reckon there is no battle needed between superkikkin en the mono Sagatun, right?

I will need to compare them again. Last time I did was before the final improvements of Superkikkin.

I strongly suspect, though, that Sagatun Mono will remain on top.

Yes, Superkikkin will cost a little less than Entity.

that sounds even more interesting than - switching two sources, a remote control + maybe JBL 308p‘s would make for an interesting system

probably the fair competion to the mono Sagatun´s would be two Superkikkins - one per channel.

I tried that with Kikkin and didn’t think it was better, just different.

This sounds very exciting.

I have long been of the opinion that the current crop of hifi equipment has too many unnecessary (for me) features that will never be used.

This may be the impetus I need to go back to basics.... Great!

does that mean Superkikkin is even the winner against Giella ∏ v1.2 ?
In the thread you mentioned Superkikkin was winning against Giella ∏ v1.1 so I am not 100% sure what the status is right now.

@Spannko, if you meant to denigrate the previous posters on this thread who used imperfect UK English you, by my count, warned 3 or 4 potential customers above. English is now an international language.
Thank you for reverting to English. In my experience, those for whom English is a second (or third, or fourth, etc) language use English in a way which is free from affectation, disguised meanings and passive-aggressiveness. Any imperfections are therefore easily overlooked and communication is effective and unambiguous.

Hello Mitmu!

We are waiting for the cases that should have been ready in December [insert frustrated emoji]. Now they claim they will ship at the end of this month. So if my assembly company is ready, they’ll hopefully start shipping in June.

As I normally close the lab during July, it looks rather tight!

You should compare to two Superkikkin 😎

I strongly doubt two Superkikkin will sound better than one. It’s optimised for driving two channels and two Kikkin was worse than one.

The cases might be delivered this week. If so, they will start being assembled very soon.

But then in July, there will be a break when both Mitac and we close. So my estimation is that Superkikkin will be released after the summer.
