Slipsik in excelsis deo.

Post by Arjen »

My name is Arjen.
This is my first post on this forum.
Recently I got a preloved Slipsik 6.1.
After the adapter of my Project Phonobox II broke I changed that one for a borrowed Naim Stageline N. Not a good match with my Nagaoka MP 300. Less body. Than I got me a Rega Fono MM. Not bad but no thrill, no emotion. Searching the internet I came across a preloved preamp I had never heard of. But it was offered by a Linn dealer, Concerto Audio Amsterdam. So that couldn’t be bad. Alex of Concerto sent me the Slipsik 6.1. I replaced the Rega For the Slipsik ans was surprised, Boy oh Boy, what an improvement. Bill Frisell’s guitar playing Lucinda Williams’ Ghost of Higway 20 landed on my lap, never before experienced that. Same as rhe voices of Nick Cave (Idiot Prayer) and Bonnie Prince Billy (Singers Grave. Slipsik really opens a Sea Of Tongues, to speak with Bonny Prince Billy.
I brought back the Rega and changed it for a pair of good damping feet for my Supernait 2, Continuo Basso Ultra Feet. Even more openness in the performances.
I had a lot of good conversations with Fredrik. Very happy with that and his awesome Slipsik. He says in his tuning he doesn’t mind dampers. In my ears it helps my system, which is placed in a cabinet, to play more easy. I ordered Soundeck damping feet for under my refurbished and upgraded Lenco 76/S and CD player. Trying to get the best out of my setup.
Conclusion. The Slipsik is a very goor match with my Lenco/Nagaoka/Naim combination.
Tak Fredrik for the excellent work.

Welcome Arjen, and congratulations on the Slipsik 6.1. So many of my customers are just blown away by the Slipsik regardless of what turntable/cartridge is running through it. They truly are special devices. Just don't let your SuperNait 2 get too close to a Boazu. Enjoy!

Slipsik: a very good match. Sorry for the spelling mistake….
Gives me the opportunity playing and reviewing some more music, panta rhei.
The Slipsik gives Cassandra Jenkings an overview of her phenomenal natural singing. And at nightime I’m enjoying The Tjord Gustavson Trio and Yuri Honing Quartet as if it’s a private life performance. Kirken, den er et gammelt hus, doesn’t sound gammelt in my hus at all.

Hi Folks,
After I by accident came across the Slipsik preamp I had pretty concersations with Fredrik.
Apart from the search for a new preamp I looked for better damping feet under devices like amp, CD player, turntable. Fredrik told me about the tuning method. That’s not about (technical) sound, improvimg bass, 3D etc, but related to the music itself. Looking for improvement can result in the opposite. I think in the end Fredrik is right. But in the meantime I walked already the other track.
The conversation was after my review of Basso Continuo Ultra Feet. I told Fredrik about better sound (in terms of what people like Paul Rigby describes). And I really must say the Ultra Feet results in more openess and body. Because of that my search went on, I came across Soundeck Damping Feet, same build but very thin, fine because of the limited room in my board. And it worked too for my CD player and my turntable. More body in the music, more detail.
So in my opinion some damping feet can work out fine. Only the Slipsik did not seem to benefit from them. Fredrik was right about that part.
Then there was some ear pessure left. Read about noisefloor. All inputs on the amp were noiseless, only the phono gave noise (volume full open). I tried the tune method. Changing plugs in the strips. Fredrik told me first the turntable, than the preamp, then the amp, apart from CD player, tuner and caps. And it works. There is still a noise on the phono input left, but not a quarter from what it was and only high frequency.
Listening is more easy now, more relaxing. And the music performance involving. It is all about good devices, gear, some tweaking and tuning at last.
Now about the set:
Lenco 76/S turntable, Lenco Heaven refurbished
Naim CD5x
Naim tuner
Slipsik 6.1 preamp
Supernait 2 amp
Naim Flatcap and Hicap
Some fine interlinks Audio Quest and phono
Cable Audio Sensibility, Harmonic Fantasy 10 as main powercord, some other fine powercords too,
a PS Audio Juicebar and DIY powerstrip .

Long time back under the blankets as a youngster I got a Sharp transistor Radio to play The Hollies ‘I can’t let go’ on Radio Luxembourg. Exciting. 55 years later with this upgrade I try to experience the same. The little boy in me stil cannot let go. But the older man now should listen more to Mr. Lejenklou for staying tuned to the joy.

Hi,
Thanks for the forum welcomes.
I’ m interested in your listening experiences with damping feet under devices.
I forgot to to tell about the cartridge on the Lenco 76/S, it is the Nagaoka MP 300. I think a good match with the Slipsik, an excellent MM combination.
And the speakers are made by the small dutch rcompany Millon, the Phantom S2.

Thank you Arjen! I have a Linn Adikt but I've always wondered how Nagaoka/Slipsik go together.

Hi Mbabst,
The Nagaoka/Slipsik seems to be to me the one in a million.
It is, little tweaking left maybe, my last stage of upgrades now. Opening up in the lockdown.
It started a year ago, upgrading the Naim XS to the Supernait 2.
After that my Naim CD 5X player sounded better than my old Lenco B52.
So the next step was getting a Lenco Heaven restored/upgrades Lenco76/S. It played with a Grado Gold. Not bad but it could be better. It was Peter Reinders from PTP Audio (Lenco specialist (Solid 12 as an excellent Lenco makeover) who told me that Nagaoka is a very good match with an ugraded Lenco. I got a hardly never used preloved one from a Philips engineer and it upgrade was significant. I also invested in new phonocord, interlinks to the preamp and powercords (Audio Sensibility Toronto.
Than the adapter of my Pro-ject preamp broke. I had a Naim Stageline N as well, but with the Nagaoka it sounded not as good as the Pro-ject. A retailer advised me the Rega Fono. That wasn’t bad, but I missed the involvement. Searching the internet I came across the Slipsik. Never had heard of that one. But this preloved one was on sale at a Linn reatailer. So it could not be bad and I took the chance for listening. In the meantime I emailed Fredrik. The Slipsik was a great step forward, more body and dynamics than the Fono. Fredrik convinced me about his research, development en build.
He also advised me the Tune Method, after I was searching for good damping of devices. i ended up with Basso Continuo Ultra Feet under my Supernait 2 and Soundeck DF damping feet under Turntable and CD player. i must say these upgrades are letting the devices bloom as intended. Fredrik is kinda relucted on that. But my set is not on a High End rack but in a 40 years old (audio) cupboard. So my opinion and experience is that this last feet upgrade let the set, the Lenco, Nagaoka, Slipsik, Supernait
Family perform at its best. That’s it for now. Stay tuned!

After getting the Slipsik 6.1 and becoming a member of this forum I learned a lot. Before this I did upgrades and randomly tweaking too. Last upgrade was the slipsik. I replaced the tweaking for the tuning, guided by the method. At least I started it doing my way and the fine tuning will need some more practice and evaluation. My quest is, after all is set, said and done, what will be left for the Slipsik 7.1 to improve sound and tune? What exactly will this upgrade give to sound and my ears? Anyone with a recent specific evaluation from 6.1 to 7.1? Or another upgrade to come (Slipsik 7.2 or Slipsik 8.1?).

I wouldn't hold my breath for a slipsik 8, or even a 7.2. Fredrik has indicated to me that the Slipsik 7.1 is the best he currently knows how to make (short of expensive mono block units with dual switch mode power supplies, which aren't being contemplated due to cost considerations). Over time he may come up with new ideas based on things learned from other projects and test them out. But a new Slipsik is not on the horizon.

The Slipsik 6.1 to 7.1 upgrade is the biggest I have heard between two Slipsik variations. Much more music gets through and with a highly spec'd LP12 it makes the Adikt sound much like a MC cartridge. If you look under the Slipsik 7.1 thread you will find much more info and several reviews. Here is the link:

Thank you Thomas. Of course I followed remarks of the Slipsik 7. You are talking about much more music by this one upgrade, the biggest in the Slipsik history. But then again what can I expect, what can my ears aspect to hear as a difference, as an improvement? Not after a first excitement because of a long waiting ‘verbesserung’, short after the introduction, but as a evaluation/review over a longer period, months, maybe years after the first surprise excitement has gone. An evaluation and valuation in terms of the tune method, musicality in terms of timbre, timing, harmonics and nuances as you note elsewhere.

Just moved from the Slipsik 6.1 to the Slipsik 7.1. It is really another stairway to hifi heaven Fredrik. Although it is rather difficult to find the exact words to describe the improvement. A try: more space for each voice and instrument, more defined bass, the whole musically deliverance more flesh and blood, more coherence like the stereo is a kinda mono-ized. In short, very crystal clear pleasant engaging listen.
