Wow - I have not even had time to think about this and they are gone.

My only issue with Giella is that it is proving to be quite a distraction.

I should be thinking about my main system and upgrading the Kore or adikt/slipsik ; or KDS2, and not trying to look for headphones which will rock.

Hell, I don't even use headphones as only the Rega Brio has a headphone socket and that is stuffed in a kitchen cupboard on the floor.

Well, Fredrik didn't mention this with the photos but two were sold before the photos even went up. As I pushed Fredrik to do them after he made the mistake of offhandedly mentioning the possibility, I was given first choice and Marco was given second choice. As luck would have it, each of us will be getting the one we liked the best: Sky Blue for me and Ice Blue for Marco. I agree with what Fredrik said about the difficulty in photographing them as in the photos I made my pick from they all look quite different to how they appear in this set. But I would still pick the one I chose then.

I first wrote that Sagatun is better. Then yesterday evening, after having listened to Giella+Tundra for over a week, I wrote that I take it back.

I think Giella is more musical. Boazu and Sagatun may both have a more precise sound character, but the music is simply more fun with Giella.

Others may disagree. I'm so much longing to hear people's impressions - this is my main reward after the launch of a new product. Arghh, the wait is unbearable.

Five Giella's arrived in Amsterdam today.

It would need to be both Monos, not just one... ;)

Looking forward to the reviews of Giella.

Never been into headphones but my curiosity has now been tweaked and yesterday I ordered a set of Grado 125e .

Out of the box- Sounds really quite good with my IPad mini and so much better with the sneaky /Rega Brio in the Kitchen. They are actually very light and comfortable on my ears.

If Giella is significantly better than the headphone amp on the Brio - then these Grados should really rock with Giella and KDS2 in my main system.

New feet!

EDIT: No, they were not good enough. No new feet for now. Apologies, I was too eager!

Excellent! I have found the same while experimenting with component feet. Different weights of unit need different size of damper. To do with how it compresses on the feet and the correlative effect on vibration. For example my Kisto needs slightly bigger sorbothene feet to my Majik amp.

We're on the same page regarding the need to choose the right feet, Discodave, but sorbothane? It's easily the worst material I've ever come across! Sucks life out of anything, regardless of where it's used. Beware!

I have decided to hold back on this change of feet on Giella. They were fine when first applied, but after 24h they've changed and gone too far. Back to the drawing board!

Fredrik,
what do you think about feet made from non-compliant material like wood, brass, stainless steel etc.?
Thanks

I have tried a lot. I have machined feet in various diameters and heights, in aluminum, steel, copper and different woods (soft and hard). They tend to work OK if you put something soft below, like thin felt or rubber. The dimensions all sound different, though, and that character is independent of the bottom surface.

Add to this that you can put washers in between the feet and the case. Every washer sounds a little different and you can combine several for a combination of effects. I haven't been able to draw any conclusions that aren't case specific, it's seems to boil down to pure trial and error.

For the small cases, the only thing that seems to sound right is small feet of some kind of slightly dampening and medium density material, like rubber. Not too hard, not too soft, not too thick and not too thin. Different shapes and rubber qualities have very distinct characters that shape how the bass is being played.

I got carried away yesterday, thinking I'd hit gold with a 12x4 foot from 3M. Of course I should know by now to give it at least a week instead of one day. None of the new ones turned out any better than the original foot after they had bedded in.

Thanks for the advice Fredrik, I shall play about with this when I get the chance. It may take a while as baby Cora arrived 3 weeks early and I'm somewhat distracted :)

No impressions from the first units yet?
