230v 50hz Slipsik5.1 in the US

Post by jyew »

Hi,

I recently moved to the US for work and brought my Slipsik 5.1 along with me. I am having some trouble finding a step up transformer that meets the power specifications of the slipsik. Can I just use a step up transformer rated at 110v to 220v? Do I have to worry about the frequency change from 50 to 60hz for the slipsik?

If a step up transformer does not work - would it be worth my while to get the unit refurbished for the power change over here in the US?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jude!

Yes, a step up transformer will work and the difference in frequency doesn't matter. The power requirement is also very small, as the maximum power of the Slipsik power supply is 15VA and the circuit draws less than a fourth of that.

Changing the internal power supply and the power cord from 230 to 115V is however quite a complicated procedure. Although Nokturne Audio can do it and it's likely to sound slightly better, it's likely to be more costly than a step up transformer.
