Fredrik at Hi-Fi Show Live, Windsor UK 29-30 Oct 2016
Even while on a well deserved holiday Fredrik has posted that he will be at this UK show at the end of October. Sounds interesting. Hopefully more details will follow soon.

Hopefully this is going ahead. I think we will be treated to KDS/3 , a selection of lejonklou gems and as yet an undisclosed speaker.macrotech2 wrote:Even while on a well deserved holiday Fredrik has posted that he will be at this UK show at the end of October. Rigging the system just now!
Source KDSM/3 (and an LP12 on standby),
Integrated amplifier Boazu, and
Loudspeakers Totem Sky.
All three are brand new models.
Very curious how it will sound!

Hope it goes well. Sorry I can't come and listen but, as mentioned before, we've got friends over. Shame, cos it's not too far from us and I would have liked to have heard it.
Re: Fredrik at Hi-Fi Show Live, Windsor UK 29-30 Oct 2016
Very good first day at Windsor!!
Lots of people, most of them surprised by how engaging those tiny Totem Sky speakers sounded. Big, powerful, deep and emotional.
Well, they had a great signal feeding them. First class digital and analogue going into Boazu. A very fast, punchy, engaging sound. Loved the Italians who commented "How come all big speakers on this show don't have any good bass and yours do?"

Fredrik,
Well done on Boazu Integrated amp - awesome fast timing - really enjoyed partnering it with the best LINN sources as LP12SE and KDS Katalyst today, source first wins. I found having no source to change much faster to demo vinyl and streaming so you have a point - you can only listen to one thing at once anyway.
Its great that you liked the Totem Acoustics Sky, I was worried that you might think too small but no. https://totemacoustic.com/en/sky To do an event when there is a new kid on the block after so much about JBL here made me smile. I think they could have a winner and to think that c.25yrs ago I selected their Model One before hi-fi retailing and now recreated as "Sky" with new drivers is great news for them.
The Italian visitors were confused for sure but very passionate to seek why....
See you in the morning

Well done guys. Sounds like you have a great set up especially with new speakers with not too many hours on them.

Is it right that the sensitivity of the speakers is 97 dB/Watt/m?

Sounds very unlikely, my guess would be 10 dB less.matthias wrote:Is it right that the sensitivity of the speakers is 97 dB/Watt/m?

Second day now, a bit less people than yesterday but still a good flow into the room. And still sounding really good! We are enjoying all the music people bring or ask for - I could do this all week!
Re: Fredrik at Hi-Fi Show Live, Windsor UK 29-30 Oct 2016
And HiFi Live at Windsor is over! Just packed everything down after playing some AC/DC tracks really loud (Back in Black, You shook me all night long). Seemed fitting as I've been talking all day about my dual switch mode power supply technology and its advantages.
Overall I am very pleased with the show! Met some truly fascinating people, some who just loved the music we played (you know who you are), some who already owned my amps (pleasure to meet you!), some who'd read about me in forums I've never heard of, some who've really impacted critical choices I've made in my life (Chris Frankland: Apologies I left to grab a sandwich after we'd spoken so briefly, I had at least a hundred more questions for you).
Great show!
Thank you Chris Fuller of Hidden Systems!
Thank you Windsor!
Thank you United Kingdom! Promise not to close your borders for me. Please.

Glad to hear the show went well! Of course, with your electronics, really good sources and good speakers, plus your setup, it's hard to go wrong. Congratulations!

Popped in to check out Linn/Lejonklou / Totem in Sandringam 9 this morning.
Small room, really small speakers but great music.
Had to pinch myself that such a tiny bookshelf speaker could sound so good - with more than enough bass to keep me happy - amazing .
Boazu as good as expected from the reviews in Denver - if I closed my eyes it could have been my ( non tarundus ) monos partnering the Klimax LP12/ KDS/3.
As it was my first HI Fi show I had a brief waltz through some other rooms. Not too much competition for Sandringham 9 in terms of musicality. Some large rooms with gigantic items of HI Fi and deconstructed systems where the power supplies and mains conditioning units were larger than Chris's Rack. Even one dedicated clock for a DAC would have struggled to fit into the Linn Lejonklou Totem room!
A final visit to Sandringham 9 confirmed that small was indeed beautiful.
Thank you to Chris and Fredrik for an entertaining Sunday morning.

Ray of Light was available on vinyl? I had no idea! Time to give my local crack...erm...record dealer a call.
Re: Fredrik at Hi-Fi Show Live, Windsor UK 29-30 Oct 2016
I noticed that you had Boazu above the streamer when you set up the room. Did that improve the musicality? I never tried this as I assumed that the source should always be on the top shelf.
I guess I will have to switch the units to test it myself in my system.

It will depend on the rack. While this Atacama was totally unknown to me, I suspect that with most racks the top shelf sounds best.ChrBea wrote:I noticed that you had Boazu above the streamer when you set up the room. We put the LP12 there!

The product on the top shelf has the best visibility.
So only logical to put Boazu there imho.

*the* Chris Frankland?

Chris Frankland? I'm intrigued, please tell more! Did he take photos?
I thought he was out of hi-fi completely to the point of being disassociated from even keeping abreast as a customer. He is a true legend in the hi-fi industry and reminds me of Big Star; even though most don't know of him, he influenced those of us who have influenced others. For a few short years, he was the only person of integrity with an honest voice in the hi-fi press. On top of that, he understood how to properly evaluate a hi-fi.
That combination hasn't existed before or after him.

Yes, it was Chris Frankland who once made The Flat Response. I thanked him for all the inspiration and the many laughs I had, lying on the floor in my first apartment, a record on the LP12, reading through each edition of The Flat Response.Ron The Mon wrote:Fredrik, lejonklou wrote:...Met some truly fascinating people, ...some who've really impacted critical choices I've made in my life (Chris Frankland: Apologies I left to grab a sandwich after we'd spoken so briefly, I had at least a hundred more questions for you).

He said it was fun times, that some still haven't forgiven him for the harsh reviews he wrote (he was both hilarious and merciless, especially if a unit was very expensive but not musical). I'm unsure if he took any photographs.

Just to confirm, Totem confirmed 87db and their website has been amended thanks...matthias wrote:Is it right that the sensitivity of the speakers is 97 dB/Watt/m?

Retail price for Sky's less at £1799 and the optional stands are £375. They are the same stands as used for Rainmakers but the Windsor show used Dreamcatcher stands

My Totem Model 1 Signatures, which seem to be similar speakers to the Sky, are also rated at 87 db.
If anyone is wondering, the Tundra 2 powers these with absolute ease and confidence at all tolerable levels.

Fredrik and Hidden Systems appear in the show report in the December 2016 issue of Hi-fi News and Record Review.
The last photo of the review shows Fredrik kneeling in front of the rack of kit and Hidden Systems logo. The text is just a summary of the kit in use but does plug Boazu. Fame at last!?

KDS/3 is a great sounding digital source and the guys who developed it deserve a lot of praise.oudheusa wrote:Can you share your impressions on the Kdsm/3 Frederik?

That said, all the engineers who work on digital audio systems focus on the wrong parts. Just like loudspeakers is the least important part of a HiFi system, the DAC is the least important part of digital audio. There's a massive gap in the general understanding of what makes digital sound good. We have some very interesting times ahead of us.
Six months ago, it would have been our benchmark. Today it's not.oudheusa wrote:Benchmark for your streamer? ;)
