My new ND5 XS 2 has a ground switch on the rear (with 2 positions, default and floating) .

According to the quick start guide, "select the default position unless the unit is connected in a hi-fi system incorporating another earthed source component or mains hum is audible through the loudspeakers in that case select the floating position".

My other sources connected to the preamp are a Slipsik 6 and a Cambridge BD 752.

Is the Slipsik 6 an "earthed source component"?

Fredrik may correct me on this but I believe the Slipsik has a floating ground, so its audio circuit will not connect the ND5 to ground. The Slipsik prefers to be connected to a preamp or amp that has a true ground, otherwise you might get some hum. So I believe you are likely best off to leave the ND5 in default mode.

Just seen in the news section the Slipsik 7!

I suspect that my 6 will need an upgrade soon!

I need to make some calculations on how to handle older Slipsik's. Slipsik 7 will require a complete rebuild and historically this has costed around half the price of a new unit.

I'm looking into some alternative options, which are:
1. Trading in old Slipsik's when a Slipsik 7 is bought.
2. Upgrading Slipsik 6.x with most of the Slipsik 7 features, without a complete rebuild and change of board. This could potentially come close to a Slipsik 7 at a much lower price, but needs to be carefully evaluated.

Option 1 seems more intriguing

Looking forward to hear more about the new Slipsik 7. It would also be great to have a discussion about choosing the right MM cartridge. I just happened to see this test
https://www.analogplanet.com/content/ni ... ng-results
I think there are some really interesting MM cartridges besides Adikt. Have any of you heard the test winner AT 150 anv
and Ortofon 2M black?
Happy New Year everybody

Freddy, I ‘m rather new here. Dont’t now you still run with the Slipsik(6). My cartridge is the Nagaoka MP300 on a refurb Lenco 76/S and I tell you, the combination of that one and my recently bought pre-loved 6.1 performs very musically. Don’t know what a Slipsik 7.1 extra will bring.
