Gaio or Slipsik at 230v US?

Post by tokenbrit »

I'm considering a switch from AT OC9 to Adikt, which would mean switching from Linto to Gaio or Slipsik. Although I'm based in the US, I run my system on 220-240v. Is it possible to get either Gaio or Slipsik with US power cord, but for 230v and, if so, will it work at 60Hz or is it not likely to make a difference over 115v?

Hi tokenbrit!

Regarding performance with different AC voltages, it's a bit difficult to know. I have a 115V supply in the lab and the Gaio/Slipsik sound really good on it. Performance is almost identical to the 230V versions - maybe a tad worse. But my 115V supply is through a massive tranformer (reducing the voltage from 230 to 115V), which I suspect degrades performance. Which in turn makes me deduct that the 115V version of Gaio/Slipsik could be slightly better than the 230V ones.

Without two proper AC supplies, one 230V and one 115V, it's impossible to know for sure.

Then there's the question of the power cord. The 230V versions of Gaio/Slipsik (/Kikkin/Kinki) can't be fitted with a North American power cord, because those cords are not rated for 230V. So for 230V, your options are Shuko (European), UK or Australian.

Thank you Frederik - good to know I wouldn't be missing out on any of the music with a Lejonklou phono stage on 115v, compared against 230.
