Sagatun or Saga - Freddie's new box. Which name ?

Post by Ozzzy189 »

Hi Guys. I've never started a poll on t'interweb before, so forgive me if i've dropped a bollock !
So freddie boy's new pre is almost upon us, but that name.... are you a Saga, or a Sagatun laddie/lassie ?
Choose now and say why !!!!
Maybe Mr. L. may just decide to change it, and although this is a bit of fun, and it IS Fredrik's baby and in no way are we here to try and change his mind......

Sorry i made a spelling typo, i hate that !!
I knew i'd drop a nut !!
Anyway, i just wanted to say that Sagatun fits in more with the Lejonklou name much more, and along with the products already made. Saga is just an English word meaning pain in the bum to me , plus it just sounds way cooler !!!!

I am no native English speaker, so I haven't got the negative background of the word Saga. From a pure verbal sounding perspective I would prefer Saga as this is as snappy as Tundra.

But, what's in a Name?

I prefer Saga for same reason as Claus. Sagatun sounds awkward to me. But then I think of Saga as being pronounced Say-Gah, not Sar-ger.

Although I said in the preamp thread that I was for Sagatun, I am now waffling on it. The reason is that I just looked up Saga in the dictionary and found this definition:

a prose narrative recorded in Iceland in the 12th and 13th centuries of historic or legendary figures and events of the heroic age of Norway and Iceland

Somehow legendary figures of the heroic age sounds pretty good to me. Not to mention the struggle I know Fredrik went through to build it. So now I'm leaning a bit more to Saga, but I would be happy either way. Therefore I'm not voting.

Seeing what Charlie1 slipped in while I was typing causes me to say that the pronunciation over here would be more like Sahgah with the emphasis on the first syllable.

Sagatun!!!

Saga is just too simple for this product. Zaga maybe, cos it´s my mothers middle name. But no, it has to be Sagatun!

In Swedish:

Saga is pronounced with 'Sa' as in 'Sardine' and 'ga' as in 'Gaffa'.

Sagatun is pronounced with 'tun' as in 'cartoon'.

EDIT: Sorry I messed it up at first. The above should be roughly correct.

Sagatun is pronounced with 'tun' just like 'Tune'.
I like Sagatun much more pronounced that way. I had presumed it was pronounced 'tun' like 'nun'.

I told you he's good at that. However, it really doesn't matter in the US as Tune and the toon of cartoon are pronounced the same way (at least here - I can't vouch for pronunciation in the South or the East coast).

But I'm still not 100% clear as I don't know how to pronounce Gaffa? The Sa from Sardine is the same as we would say it here, though. Here is a link to the dictionary entry which has the definitions and the pronunciation I am used to:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/saga

I do agree with Charlie1 that I like Sagatun better knowing it sounds like tune. That makes it a Tune with Saga (a heroic story). Works for me.

Sagatun got my vote. I agree with the already mentioned reasons why, Sagatun just sounds a bit more special. I think it's a very cool name for a preamp :)

I'm not completely convinced about this version either, thinking about it I think that the Swedish "u" is quite difficult to find in English?

Swedish pronounciation of Y and U can be difficult. But I think my example is close enough. Maybe you'd like to record yourself saying it and share with us, Azazello?

Thomas, your Merriam-webster link refused to play me the audio. I think one difference is that we emphasize and let the tone rise on the last vowel. Both in Saga (saGA) and Sagatun (sagaTOON).

Well - maybe pronunciation in Swedish is not that important :)

I vastly prefer SAGATUN!

Saga doesn't sound like a PreAmp to me, wasn't Saga a chart rock band in the 80s? I think my cousin was a fan of them.

But beware that the bridge from sagaTUN to TUNdra ends in a speaker called DRAgon (just kidding!)

Yes, i think the link between the two words, like the link between the pre and power amplifiers works really well.
TUNdra and sagaTUN.
Nice.

As I used to visit Norway & Sweden a lot, I think Sagatun sounds cool. But maybe you can post a FLAC/ALAC/etc track you introducing both names, as suggested earlier.

My girlfriend says on the Facebook page I did, that saga could be confused with the over 50's insurance company in the UK, so definitely not saga. So although she can't vote here, she said sagatun too.

Thanks. Sagatun currently seems to win over Saga by 5:1.

Anyone curious how it performs? I was told yesterday there would be some feedback posted soon. In the other thread, I presume.
