Re: Preamps with DSs
Do you know, some evenings I have been so confused that I have been reduced to just putting the HiFi on and listening to the music and relaxing.... LOL! You don't need tunedem Don - it's just a short cut anyway. Sounds like you're doing fine without it. Enjoy what you enjoy. Discussing Hi-Fi is one...

Re: Preamps with DSs
Just as a matter of interest, even after 200 hours of running in my DS is still producing variable results. Two days ago it was awful - I couldn't listen to it. Yesterday it was much better and probably the best it's sounded so far. Music Lover suggested it takes 3 months of continuous playing to f...

Re: Preamps with DSs
Does the success of the KDS/2 upgrade confirm that Exakt was the superior source at the time of its release? After all, Exakt was the first to include improved clocking architecture. Surely the improved timing trumps anything the DVC might spoil later on - that's source first theory isn't it? Or pe...

Re: Preamps with DSs
Did he replace KDS/1 + KK with just a KDS/2? No, unfortunately not. Like many owners, he sent the KDS1 off for upgrade, trusting that it would be better. That would have been an interesting test. It would give us more idea of how deeply some people dislike the DVC. Imagine preferring a KDS1/KK1 to ...

Re: Preamps with DSs
I hope everybody are clear on the fact that there is no such thing as DVC off in the DS/DSM, as clarified by Linn staff on their forum. DVC off in Konfig means the DVC is still in the loop adding dither to the process, with the volume locked at 80. The only thing we can judge is variable DVC versus...

Re: Preamps with DSs
One thing that surprise me is that so many seem to have missed Charlie1's point, but it might be due to poor installation conditions. It seems more than just installation to my mind. A friend with well set-up Klimax system upgraded to KDS2. He tried it without the KK1 and hated it. He couldn't stan...

Re: Preamps with DSs
Thanks ML. I've not spoken to him in a while, so perhaps he's in the same situation and it's continued to improve (overall). Another thumbs up to Ceilidh for his detailed post. It's a shame we don't hear from him more often, but I am particularly impressed by his strength of mind to stay away for su...

Re: Preamps with DSs
How does the KDS2/power amp combo deal with the problem of impedance matching? I recall Fredrik stating this was one of the main benefits of a pre-amp. Is it still there or does the DVC make it redundant? Another way of answering this question might be to compare KDS2 vs KDS2/pre-amp at volume 80, ...

Re: Preamps with DSs
I expected the music to be buried in digital noise, however I can't detect any distortion at all. I wonder how the distortion will manifest itself though. I recall that the harmonic distortion of early CD led to a brittle harsh sound, quite different to how analogue distorted. Or is harmonic distor...

Re: Harmonihyllan
Shame you can't have the LP12 on the Harmoni all the time due to feedback. Was the Harmoni better than the Archidee at low volume and prior to any feedback? If so, then probably worth pursuing things further in an effort to find a location that will work. Is it possible to relocate the rack against ...

Glad it went well Ozzzy and thanks for the detailed write up. Sounds like you have a great system/room there, no doubt about to get even better with an upgrade to Tundra 2.0.

Re: Linn discontinues all analog preamps!
Wow - didn't expect that either. Quite surprised.
Maybe they are virtually zero sales and think 'why not?'
I agree it's very good news for Fredrik.
How do folks think this news will impact the 2nd hand KK market, if at all?

Sounds like Scottish Power shouldn't set up their own streaming services then?

Re: Latest DS firmware
For me, the term silent repetition has always involved a delay between hearing and silently repeating it. With no delay at all (that I am conscious of), I have called it listening and trying to understand. Are you saying these are two different approaches or two ways of describing the same thing? D...

Re: Latest DS firmware
Thanks Tom and Spannko for your helpful responses. I did a bit of tune dem'ing last night. I also find that I go back to A if I feel the need or more often pick a new track and reverse the starting order. I tried something like AAAAB and didn't feel it really made much difference to AAB even with a ...

Re: Latest DS firmware
Certainly fits with the way you are doing it Charlie1. I'm not sure it does now :) I tend to only listen once before starting the comparison - i.e. AAB. The first listen on 'A' enables me to pick what element or elements I want to silently repeat. Of course, I've already starting to learn the music...
