To Torque or not to Torque...?

I have an SV torque driver. Do you have to remove the arm each time you check a new VM95 torque? Ordinarily, I let my dealer do all work on my LP12 but could be tempted to play with cartridge torques if it doesn't require removing the Ittok. If you have to ask, then you know this is beyond your ski...

Ron The Mon's Testimonial

The crazy thing is it sounds magical. The day I picked up my deck we did some comparisons. There was an LP12 running in a demo room into a very high-end system. The deck was Linn Lingo2/Cirkus/Kore/LP12/Ekos2/Adikt. This deck was $3k more than mine. The funny thing was I made Tom sit down and I did...

JBL 3677 Mods

Tinned copper inside speakers always sounds more musical to me. It has tone and scaling. Copper without might have more introspective but it certainly isn't in tune for me. The twisting I might play with. But I can say most the time it doesn't do much either way when I've played with it for speaker...

Mono Hi-Fi?!

I wonder if mono is better via a single speaker like they did many years ago. Who is "they"? What is meant by "many years"? Name me a single year. Show me evidence this happened. I don't believe any of it. I was around in the '60s. I remember the day Bridge Over Troubled Water came out. I was at a ...

Re: Mono Vinyl

One last thought, I assume pre stereo era turntables just had a single channel coming from the cart. But I guess modern mono carts supply two channels so that you can play through stereo speakers. Charlieone, You pulled a fast one on me and added a paragraph after I started responding! LPs (and 7" ...

Mono Vinyl

I recently read that you've not heard the full potential of mono LPs until you've used a mono cartridge. Where did you read this and what is the experience of the person posting? I have found that 100% of the folks who write this are NOT source-firsters and actually believe the cartridge and tonear...

Ekos SE/1 Status Update?

(over four weeks ago.) I'm upgrading my Ekos SE tonearm for the Ekos SE/1 tonearm. In addition, I'm upgrading my Akurate Radkal for the Klimax Radikal as well. I'm hoping this project will be completed within a week or two. Details and pictures will be provided. Any progress or are you still hoping...

Dee 2 Ehh

Richard, I know it's too late to give you advice but maybe someone else can benefit from my experience. When the Linn Ikemi came out, it provided better sound than the Karik/Numerik. Many dealers ended up with traded-in Numeriks. My dealer had four used Numeriks at one point. I took the "best" (newe...

Apple vs. Pineapple

Please remember Charlie1 is not comparing the new AT-VM95E (or C or EN or ML) to a Linn K9. He is only comparing the "VMN" versions, meaning stylus-only on a Linn K-9 body. He is also not entirely clear on break-in period times of the styli compared. 27 hours is the minimum break-in time needed. Any...

Tom,
I was going to respond "this will never happen", but occasionally odd items come up used at low prices.

Who knows?

I will report back.

Lejonklou v Naim

Fredrik, Any prior post of mine should in no way be construed to claim Naim superior to any Lejonklou amps; regardless of the way they are earthed. I have not done such a comparison. I have listened to Naim and Lejonklou products both long and short-term. I have never directly compared them. Both ar...

NOT FUNNY

...search: audiophile club athens,... in the video you see how to do it - this guy knows it (its really funny) ;) I watched your linked video and it saddens me. What I wrote above is not funny or a joke. It is based on science and current U.S. electrical code. If you wish to mock me and call me a f...

Lightning and Grounding

So apparently we need to go and reconnect the grounds on our electrical poles now. Probably best not to attempt during a lightning storm. Most likely. Not true. Yes, you might need to climb your local electrical pole to get better sound. Lightning/electricity always takes the path of least resistan...

"Dual mono", True Dual Mono, and Proper Grounding

but would they not meet each other in the source component as soon as you use a digital source? Yes, and there lies the dilemma... Would it work to disconnect the ground wire in one of the RCAs going to the preamp? Would that cause other problems? An easy solution is to buy an all-Naim system and u...

Unofficially named? Really? OK, you got me on that one. Magnum Dynalab ST-2 and Linn Ekos SE

I'm still deciding which antenna to purchase. Ultimately, it will depend on which one fits into my music room the best, and how much cable will be required. However, this project has recently taken a back seat temporarily. I've had an ST-2 for 26 years and it has been one of my best hi-fi purchases...

Ittok LVIII!!

The Ekos1 came out in 1988. That with a K9/AT-VM95 is a much better value than an Ittok with any other cartridge. It's actually an LVIII mk 1 so older than some Ekos arms. I just love the look of the LP12 with Ittok - sometimes it's not just about the music for me. The funny thing is back in late 8...
