Re: Linn Espeks

Hi, sorry for not responding sooner. Moving in a slightly different direction with my setup. I had a slight dalliance with floor-standers (Ninka's) but decided I was happier with my stand-mounts (Katans and 109's) so staying put on the speaker front for now. Bit of a generalisation on the speakers h...

Re: Linn Majik 109s, Nearly New

Sounds like good cautionary advise, especially as I've not experienced Espeks before. Looking for something more full range, 109's are sounding a bit small-scale in my room and don't want to add a sub, so thinking of going back to floor-standers. 140's are the obvious route, and nothing wrong at all...

Linn Espeks - No longer looking

Looking to move from my Majik 109's to a pair of Linn floor standing speakers. Owned many Linn speakers over the years but not Espeks and I think I'd like to give them a try. Please let me know if you have a pair you're looking to sell. May do a part-ex with the 109's if you're going in the opposite...

Linn Majik 109s, Nearly New

Bought new buy me in April this year from authorised UK Linn retailer, so still well in excess of 4 and a half years warranty remaining. These little beauties are in white and almost mint. The only mark or blemish are the tiny pin holes in the base of the cabinets where the speakers have been placed...

Re: How to remove lid - Chakra amps?

Typical. After posting the above, I went back to give it another try, and the thing slid right off. Not sure if it's a /1 case thing but the outer case has a tongue sticking out from the top front edge that clicks into a socket in the front panel. It probably took a slight press of the top of the ca...

How to remove lid - Chakra amps?

Help! I'm trying to remove the lid of my 4100 so I can fit the internal links. I'm sure it's as simple as removing the four screws, 2 either side, underneath and near the left and right hand edge of the amp. Done that, but the lid is refusing to move and I don't want to force it. I can see some larg...

Re: K400

I'm on the lookout for some K400 myself and very happy to stand behind Offerdal in the queue.

Linnie, if Offerdal doesn't need all your K400 and you have some left, I'm ideally looking for a single piece, 6m or longer, but will take a pair of cables if more convenient. Pre-cut down to "K200" is fine.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I frequently flip-flop over which clip is preferable and don't find it easy to make a consistent and reliable decision quickly. If you have the patience, I find the most reliable indicator is time. Make a tweak, live with it for a week or so, what's your gut instinct towards the end of the week? Are...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I thought this was being a bit unkind to the second clip - 'board with feet' , until I tried listening with apple headphones. With these, the differences are much more marked, compared to the in built speaker. Makes these comparisions even quicker. When the thread started, I was using the crummy in...

Re: Emotion in Music

A bit off-topic, but, regarding Linn and Naim ... systems of all one make or the other can be too much Linn, or too much Naim. Too much Linn - in order to make the tune easy to follow, something gets stripped out and the sound is simplified too far. Think of something like the computer animated feat...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Thanks for the feedback re. Allae's vs 109's. The Allae's clearly have had a lot of thought and engineering put into their design and construction but I'm not sure that my sparce, echoey room does them any favours. It's very obvious how much more detailed and dynamic Allae's are compared to 109's, w...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

The JBL's remind me a lot of Rehdeko speakers. Not the fullest, smoothest or refined of speakers but there's an immediacy and quickness about them, like spongy layers of artificiality have been removed and your listening to something live rather than recorded

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Thanks for the responses, I prefer non-upsampled too, but not much in it.

I've got an itch now to produce some better in-room recordings. I don't think I'll stop until I get to something like this (needs headphones):

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Hi beck, don't worry about conversion to mp3, it's pretty much the format used to embed audio into the video clips that have been posted, i.e. lossy and compressed. Getting somewhere now. Have made some audio only recordings in Audacity and converted into the highest quality mp3 Audacity can muster;...
