Re: Linn Axis Speed

Interesting my understanding was one pot was for 33, the other for 45. I saw markings on the circuit that indicated which was which.

Re: Cleaning Linn Axis motor pulley

I’m seeking out ideas on cleaning the sub platter on an LP12 where the belt makes contact. I know Brasso is not intended for metal that has a lacquer finish so that out. I’ve always used isopropyl alcohol but seeing how much better Brasso did on the pulley, I’m wondering if there’s a cleaner that mo...

Re: Cleaning Linn Axis motor pulley

The motor pulley cleaned up nicely using several cotton buds with Brasso. Bit disappointed about not being able to adjust the speed to 33 1/3.

Re: Cleaning Linn Axis motor pulley

The best I could get the speed on the Axis is 33.88 RPM adjusting the pot on the underside of the deck. Not sure if it indicates a problem with the original power supply which has never been serviced. That gent in the YouTube video cleaning the pulley on the LP12 got me motivated to run out to Home ...

Re: Cleaning Linn Axis motor pulley

The Barkeepers friend mixed with a moist Qtip has removed the rough buildup on the pulley. The used Qtip was black so I assume it was caked on belt residue.

Re: LP12 Bounce Measurement

I would think the weight of the iPhone on the platter would throw off the level of the platter much different from the weight of a record and have an adverse effect on the bounce. Here’s something to strive for. https://youtu.be/43_lQvVI13k Theres a video that follows yours by Linn Kasa, trying to ...

Re: Cleaning Linn Axis motor pulley

@pdcman, Thanks for the tips. I have some barkeeper’s friend, maybe I’ll give that a try. I think I’m dealing with some type of corrosion that needs more than what the isopropyl alcohol was capable of. We have a new Linn belt and vial of oil so should be good. I’m assuming it takes close to the enti...

Cleaning Linn Axis motor pulley

I’m helping a friend get his Axis going which has been sitting unused for several years. There is a roughness to an area of the pulley where I think the belt had been contacting it for the years it’s been sitting. I tried using isopropyl alcohol with a Q-tip but the roughness remains, I tried search...

Apart from that, I have never been able to separate tunefulness from timing. It’s always just been more musical or less musical to me. How can something be tuneful when the timing is off? Then the foundation for the tune is missing. And how can something have good timing but not be tuneful? I wonde...

Re: How we define "good sound"

IMO, Richard Dunn, owner of NVA electronics had an axe to grind with Linn, period. I don’t recall any turntable beating out a LP12 when needle drop results were shared on Pink Fish forum, including those from Bake-Offs. It’s a shame Tony was forced by big tech to delete all those threads on his foru...

Re: How we define "good sound"

I get the impression from reading various posts that it appears there are folks willing to accept less tune and information of what’s on the vinyl for more synergy tone wise with the rest of their system.

Re: Video about 10 iconic turntables.

w The Rega Planar 3 was not the most tuneful £200ish turntable in the early 1980's. There were multiple middle of the range turntables from the Japanese corporates from that era that were more tuneful. The bottom of the range plasticky Japanese turntables were untuneful. Avoid them at all costs. Bu...

I did at the time. No one preferred the P10 but those people listening tend to have similar preferences to me so perhaps not a surprise. I would encourage anyone interested to have a listen.

Re: Video about 10 iconic turntables.

In addition to borrowing a P10 for a few days, which I enjoyed, I had a brief P6 demo using Rega amps and Dynavector speakers. Could have been the dealer but it was really dull. The positive is that it wasn't impressive Hi-Fi, but it wasn't at all engaging. Conversely, the Rega One system I heard a...
