Well, I tried disabling Twonky - and some other stuff on my Qnap. Played the streamer - could not notice any difference. While the music was still playing I opened up the Qnap configuration and switched Twonky on and off several times. I could not notice any difference to the music as it played (Jan...

Streaming software - different flavours

This has been mentioned on the Linn forum recently. I wonder what Mr L's learned folk have found:- I have recently tried Twonky, Asset and Minimserver on my Qnap TS112 with my Akurate DS. I cannot find any difference in sound with these different programs - not that I would necessarily expect to. Bu...

I rip my CDs using dbPoweramp to a hard drive on my Windows 7 PC. I then use a nice free programme called CopyTo to copy new rippings to my NAS. It also verifies the copy. So what are your ears picking up that is different in the ripped file as opposed to a copy? Have you a technical explanation for...

Robert, I think you will find the photo stages of a Linn Majik Preamp surprisingly good, either MC or MM. Get one of these and you have half your system sorted out. Sad one cannot get this model Dynamiked.

Linn Majik DS/1 Streamer

As a result of selling my Uphorik on this forum, I got tempted by Rafal's Akurate DS, to which I succumbed..... Now I have my Majik DS/1 Dynamiked bought new from the Sound Organisation York in only last August. As new - no visible marks or wear that I can see. Price £1,200, cost £1,880. Feel free t...

Uphorik now sold, leaving a lonely LP12 for buyer inspection and collection. Thank you Mr L for allowing your forum to be used in this way. I have the rest of my bits illustrated here http://www.tarn-cottage.co.uk/hifi/ . A few photos, not quite Kuma standard I am afraid. I have been asked by a coup...

Gone Streaming, therefore various items for sale

Hi there I am now using a Majik DS exclusively, mainly for reasons of convenience and domestic downsizing. Which means that I, somewhat reluctantly have a number of items for sale: 1983 Linn LP12, variously upgraded - Cirkus, Tramp2, Ittok LVII, Dynavector 20X2, Lingo (small box variety, Mk 1). Turn...

Interesting and amazing research Thomas - thank you for your dedication. Reading this thread a couple of months ago I decided to reduce the length of my K200 to 2.48m. Partly out of curiosity, and partly to get rid of a couple of coils of cable on the carpet from my previously 6 m length: so at leas...

Thanks for comments, and best wishes for the new year, too. The type of secateur mentioned seems to be common for garden tools, right?, Yes - I steal one from my wife - the one she prunes her roses with. Make sure it is the type with only one sharp blade. (Go and look at some in a gardening shop an...

Impressive! To cut K400, I simply use secateurs. It is important to get the sort with only one sharp blade. That is, they have one sharp blade that strikes against a blunt "finger" which is a few mm wide. Then it is the case of simply a case of sitting down with the K400 flowing over your lap, and s...

Not knowing much about this myself, I have recently raised this on the Linn DS forum, and received some helpful replies. However the thought occurs to me that the use or...

Fair question, Lunch. I started this thread in haste partly to point out that a new firmware was available, and to my ears it sounded promising. So what do we think of 4.14.508?

To my ears - the best firmware to date on my humble Majik DS. I had settled on 4.1.10 as being the most musical. But this is as good IMHO.

Hi Claus If you have a pair of 400s, you can try both ways before doing any cutting. Personally I have experimented with bi-wiring in the past and never preferred it. IMHO, bi-wiring can sound initially exciting, but is tiring and less musical. But each to his own. On the matter of cutting K400: I f...

Before unplugging ethernet cables for experimental purposes, is it necessary to power down the switch, NAS and Streamer?

If anyone is doing any comparative listening in the UK, do call in your local "Pound" shop. I got a couple of nice sounding Belkin CAT6, 1 metre cables, for, err, £1 each. Worth a try.
