Re: Power cords

just to make sure you dont get me wrong - I am not saying the Hirakawa ones are better than Volex Tongyuan because I just have not tested it. But I came to the same conclusions that there is a certain quality in standard power cords with molded plugs which I didnt expected (the self made cord and th...

yes you are right but the GS108T and the Friwo at the right phase are the best improvement for the money.

Re: Optimizing your DS

this is the way I found out my house seems to be wired wrong as when I use angled power cords I have to put them into the outlet with the cable facing up to have the live wire as you recommend. Thank you very much for the reassurance. seems the „correct“ wall outlet configuration is live/L1 on the r...

Re: FRIWO 12 v medical grade PSU for Netgear GS108 switch

I agree - now with diving deeper into the correct wiring of an IEC socket/plug it seems to be that also my house is wired „wrong“... even though audio industry seems to wire devices also inconsistant.

Seems the more correct setting would be phase/hot/L1 is the right side of the power outlet.

Re: FRIWO 12 v medical grade PSU for Netgear GS108 switch

Yes that is right but I would still try if the other way is more musical - it doesn’t have to be the same for every MPP15.

Re: FRIWO 12 v medical grade PSU for Netgear GS108 switch

Maybe it’s no improvement for you as there is a 50% chance you are already on the right phase. I thought it’s an illusion but when my father came by and asked me what music I am playing (he has hearing aids) and finally my younger daughter (7years) started to move her body to Waylon Jennings ... 196...

Re: Optimizing your DS

Actually I did buy it to minimise influences to my system as Bri stated many SMPS radiate. He also told me it’s not so much of an issue with the „brick“ type SMPS but I try to be on the safe side and for 80 Euro it is a no brainier for me. And my original one did a high frequency whistling in the kH...

Re: Optimizing your DS

Thank you for all those recommendations - I get the feeling with streaming there are more options to screw things up ending up with less musicality.

Or to put it positive many things that can improve the sound.
Seems I also have to check phase on the power supply of my NAS which is also a FRIWO.

Re: FRIWO 12 v medical grade PSU for Netgear GS108 switch

Hi all need to put some live into the FRIWO discussion as I made a strange experience. Music Lover has asked this question before but it was not answered. How to make sure the Friwo is on the right phase. For most part of Europe you have two options/positions to put the Friwo into the power outlet. ...

Re: Optimizing your DS

I wanted to give you feedback on moving the NAS and switch to the same dedicated music system power supply cable instead of having them at a different cable. I also tried to not daisy chain them. Putting them on the first socket with another power block and at the same time moving Pre, DS and Amp on...

Re: S/PDIF cable with Linn Silver?

I have not - but things to take care are:
impedance of the cable should be 75 Ohm (as well as connectors)
with S/PDIF shorter lengths are usually not preferred - optimum length is 1.5 Meter (at least that was 7-8 years ago)

Re: Optimizing your DS

this is interesting as theoretically solid core should have a better HF rejection and so a less noisy power distribution.
But shows that the usual thinking behavior doesn't work.

with my own words: the intention what to search for in an experiment influences the outcome
its more than just expectation bias - your intention influences what you find

science is only what we agree to know by now

Re: Optimizing your DS

Have you ever experimented with a solid core cable from wall to power block? Meaning a cable you would usually use for installation.
I know its against EU rules and only recommended as an experiment.

Hi Lejonklou - was interesting - what I realised in changing this but also making my mind up with respect to SO "off" is that I might got a better understanding about what you and others said about musicality. I was easily tricked by the clarity SO creates with tighter bass, better understanding of ...

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

Actually without being morbid I think it is all part of dumbing down of the audio industry to stay alive. Actually I can foresee Naim and Linn no longer existing in ten years' time because of 1) company follies 2) the changes in home entertainment 3) the forthcoming financial crisis in the UK Hope ...
