A month ago I thought this is cute but there's no way it can improve more ..and here we are. When the song gets going the NAD really is no slouch.
I take this is without falling back on old tweaks like using a CD washer or a degausser?

Re: Karousel
I agree. I know a few musicians and they seem to be able to fill in the blanks and can enjoy music on rather mediocre systems. Understandably nothing can replace the kicks they get from playing music live anyway so there's reasons they don't care about good hifi or spending lots of money on it. Edit...
Re: Karousel
You are right. That was not one of my best ideas or theories I ever had.
Re: Karousel
Not at all, just been a consumer of Linn and similar good stuff since the 80s.
Even if I don't own a LP12 anymore I'm still very much interested in where its headed.

Re: Karousel
About the difference between Karousel and the other bearings. What if artists could listen to their own LP on these systems and tell us, "This one's jammin' better than we did in the studio! However the other one is more correct." Did Linn get closer to the real timing and swing of the music or not?...

Re: Dr Loudness War
I think it's not only about the loudness anymore. It's still around because the super compressed sound itself is popular and artists push for it since it's a commercial risk otherwise. Just how not being loud enough used to be the commercial risk.

Re: Dr Loudness War
Vinyl playback obeys the laws of mass and physics of the world we live in. That's why even with some faults it will sound natural to us. On the other hand digital is so abstract that a tiny fault can stop us from fully enjoying the music. However, If all the problems in the digital chain is eliminat...

Re: Linn Nexus LS250 Revisted
I got the Nexus speakers back in 1989 when buying my first good stereo system including a Linn Axis turntable and a second hand 220v voltage upgraded Naim Nait 1 (it got a red led), plus 5m K20 speaker cable. In the demo I compared to the Linn Helix speakers but found myself enjoying Nexus more. A f...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I believe it's possible to have your cake and eat it with the right HiFi system, i.e. you can have musicality and the detail of the individual instruments etc. I would say you are right, but I never felt relying on tune dem must mean you sacrifice something. It only makes the music even more exciti...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
..I really should have worded my post differently to avoid confusion because tune dem rules, but listening for the tune of different instruments is entry level stuff (think Rega Planar 3) and just the beginning of the journey to musical understanding. Many thanks to Fredrik for explaining the differ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I think they agree on the need to not focus on details like the tune of separate instruments. Only bad hifi breaks down music into parts like that.
Edit: And Beck prefer musical understanding instead of an impressive sound which Fredrik also brings up.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
The programmed has an almost metal sounding edge to it which I recognize from when trying different settings on my Oppo. Still it can sound pretty nice, especially on good recordings but long term it's grating.

Re: Hierarchy within the speaker
Long ago I tried doing a similar write-up, because I wanted a check list of easy answers on complex matters :) Here's what I surely thought would make a good speaker: It's passive. Uses 1st order crossovers. Uses a stand. Is a ported design. Is a two-way. Uses a paper cone woofer. Isn't full range. ...
Re: Karousel
I get why the laser focus of Karousel on retrieving everything that's stored on a LP can be distracting to some. Similar to using a microscope and clearly see it's actually many separate parts that's making up the whole. Perhaps a future upgrade can build on the strengths of Karousel and make everyo...

I'm in the same boat as in still listening to CD quite often, so it's fun to see how far you can reach
before any limitations of the player and the media will put up a brick wall.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
It could be disharmonic vibrations, or that everything in the system including the cables needs to be in a relaxed state (not Minnesota) before the music can really flow?! I'm not smart enough to go further on that. About turning the front panel display off. It's usually a button on the remote, the ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Sounds good and they're pretty close. It could be the mastering that's the cause of the difference. Are you using the new third generation Silver Analogue Interconnect? Have you tried (if possible) turning off the front panel display? Have you tried to put something under the cables that touches the...

Re: Is there a musical bluray-player? Replacing the Oppo BDP-105.
Here's a combination of settings for best sound. Make sure you're using the dedicated Stereo Audio Outputs. Also use the HDMI 1 output to the TV/Projector. Don't connect anything to HDMI 2 because for some reason it makes the sound worse. Unless you need it, disconnect the Network Ethernet cable for...

Re: Lejonklou Boazu Integrated Amp
What makes the Boazu, and I'm sure the rest of Lejonklou's stuff special, is that everything in the music is getting equal priority. I mean it's hard to follow how a band is playing if an amplifier for some reason emphasize the drum hits. That's fake dynamics, that I admit do sound exciting, but in ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Being guided by the Source First philosophy, maybe the Nait should remain and the search for a complimentary pair of speakers should begin. Answers on the back of a post card, as they used to say! I'm still curious to try and find a speaker that can out tune the Omens, just to see where they sit on...

Re: Is there a musical bluray-player? Replacing the Oppo BDP-105.
Thanks for the input! I have already tried the ones you mention and I agree with setting the Audio Processing to Front Left/Right. Since it's a mess without it, though changing the Dynamic Range Control to OFF never sounded right to me. The Speaker Configuration has always been set to Stereo instead...

Is there a musical bluray-player? Replacing the Oppo BDP-105.
Hello! I'm new here but is a longtime lurker. I own an Oppo BDP-105 and setting it up correctly will only get you so far, and it always got that super detailed overanalytical sound from the expensive DAC. I'm thinking of replacing it with the cheaper BDP-103 model since people say it's the better o...
