Re: JBL 308P and 708P

A word of caution regarding speakers. They are the most "dangerous" part of the Hifi system because they change the tonal character the most. This can surely be fun, but also very confusing and steal valuable time from listening to music. In my experience, changing speakers frequently makes me more...

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

I don’t think Spannko can be using his KDS/1 as a preamp. I have still not recovered from switching from Sagatun Monos to the digital volume control on KDS/1 a few years ago. The Sagatuns went off for an upgrade and the music fell off a cliff. I remember being quite upset for a long time. I’m curren...

Re: General Discussion about Källa

To me, Kalla has confirmed that the quality of the recording is everything ( after the abilities of the musician who did the performance of course). Before - I always categorised digital recordings ( CD or streaming) into 'good' or 'bad' and avoided the latter on my Linn streamers/ CD players. With ...

Re: General Discussion about Källa

Källa has been a game-changer for me. There's no point commenting on its sound, it's all about the music. Analogue man has quietly left the stage... I look back at my expenditure on new and re-issued vinyl, and weep. Then I look forward on my future lack of expenditure on vinyl and rejoice. And the...

Re: Recommendation for 6m RCA Cable

Good decision MBast Your next decision will be which interconnects to put on and which soldering technique to use. I'm sure I remember this as being pretty important to the quality of the final product- at least as, if not more important than the cable itself. I have absolutely zero skills in solder...

Re: Recommendation for 6m RCA Cable

A few years ago I had standard linn silver interconnects and 9 metre K400 from Tundra monos to 242s. Wanting to move the tundras closer to the speakers using recommended 2.48m K400s, I tried 9 metre linn black interconnects (silver phono interconnects) from the sagatun monos to the Tundras- no conte...

Spannko wrote: 2022-01-05 13:39 Question: What cable do you recommend
Answer: Linn Silvers, soldered with good solder chosen for its musical qualities

Great. I’ll get some Mogami and solder them with audiophile silver solder!

One couldn’t make it up! 🤣
Maybe the Mogamis will be more musical. You never know.

Re: Recommendation for 6m RCA Cable

Recommendation on the forum is to use Linn Phono interconnects - again silver is better than black and more expensive ( although the increase in cost is much less than going from 6m Black cable to 6m silver )

Best to get them made professionally using Lejonklou soldering technique.

Re: LP12 Building Advice

In my experience the Karousel is more in tune than the Cirkus but not clearly better than the pre-Circus black lined bearing. Very interesting post, thank you. I got the Cirkus shortly after it came out and was very impressed with it at first. In Hi-Fi ways it was clearly better. It was only after ...

Re: General Discussion about Källa

I expected the response you gave. Thanks. Im sure you will hold on to your lp12 but on the otherhand it may well be prudent to sell and use the funds to bolster another part of the chain. Or simply save the world :) If I had not invested so much energy into my LP12 (Many man hours in researching/se...

Another question. How do you use the I pad mini as the controller from other apple devices. For Spotify, run the Spotify app on the iPad mini. Then run Spotify on another device (Android, iPhone, desktop etc). Tap on the loudspeaker icon in the Spotify app and you should see the iPad mini as an ava...

How do you use the I pad mini as the controller from other apple devices.

I can’t see it in the AirPlay/Bluetooth section?

Not a problem as such - just curious

Quick iPad Mini 6 question: is there any way to have sound output default to Airplay-Lejonklou*? It keeps reverting to iPad... * other than keep playing music ;) I have had this problem as well. Re: General Discussion about Källa

I think it is probably 80-90% Kalla now. Previously with KDS/2 it was around 50% but crucially, there was never the same thrill with digital and it was a reluctant ‘go to’ when I did not have the vinyl available. Now - it’s the same ( to all intents and purpose)engagement / enjoyment with Kalla as w...

Re: General Discussion about Källa

In terms of comparing LP12 to Kalla, I find that where Spotify has the ‘same’ recording , there is not too much in it and I opt for Kalla as it is just quicker and easier - no extended warm up needed. Once warmed up, like Tokenbrit, I probably have a slight preference for the LP12, but in practical ...

Re: Recommended control points

I finally managed to get my hands on an I pad mini 6 on Xmas day. Initial impressions were poor - really poor. After a period of reflection ( longer than usual due to the soporific effects of an overly indulgent Xmas dinner), I went back to the offending I pad and changed the default Spotify setting...

Re: LP12 Building Advice

It was suggested to me once by a very well known Linn dealer that they could build a starter deck for me using my RB 300 arm from my 1984 RP3, but I was put off after discussing with others whom I trust with LP 12 set up and who have fantastic tune dem abilities. I ended up with a stock Majik deck w...

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

I have Giella Pi running into 308s - it is really very good ( easily good enough for KDS/2 and even Kalla) , and definitely deserve a pair of high quality cables. If you have found a great pair of inexpensive cables which sound great, there is no need to look further. I was toying with the idea of L...

I bet it looks smart. Do you feel those last degrees (75.2 to 73.4) are an improvement or not noticeable? No significant difference that I could discern. Re: General Discussion about Källa

Yes! Now with Kalla on the bottom shelf, 38mm space above it, and Radikal on the shelf above- the temperature with Kalla playing is 75.2 (25C) , door closed. With door open a little it falls to73.4(24C) So placing Kalla on the bottom shelf and creating more space ( now 38mm instead of the previous 1...

Re: General Discussion about Källa

My lower shelf runs at 77 compared to 80.6 with Kalla playing and door closed - so definitely cooler. And it does sound better at this temperature. Better balanced and flow - vocals in particular are noticeably better and it tempers some occasionally ‘strident’ notes that some females in particular ...

You have read my mind! I am planning to move Kalla to the lowest shelf this afternoon and see if I can also get a little more space above it. Ok - maybe I’m exaggerating.

But definitely much better at 20 mins after it starts spinning. And I’m sure it keeps on improving a bit more for some time after.

If I’m planning a late evening session, I’ll often start it spinning as soon as I get in from work.

Re: General Discussion about Källa

I’m also happy to wait, but sometimes need a quick fix - which I can now get with Kalla / Spotify. I am finding that where Spotify has a good to great recording of one of my favourite LPs- I am increasingly likely to just use Kalla and not bother with the LP12- this never happened with KDS2. It’s a ...
