Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+
As usual there are lies, damn lies and statistics. I looked at Ios vs. Android market share and the first one to pop up indeed showed a worldwide split of 15% to 85% but the next two analyses, which were from different companies, showed a 25% to 75% share. I dug out the source of my global market s...

Re: Motherboard Shoot Out
Thanks to those who commented on the clips! The sources were as follows: Source A: Asus Tinker Board S Source B: Hakai using two strips of 4GB 1R RAM Source C: Intel DN2800MT using one strip of 2GB 1R RAM Source D: Intel DN2800MT using one strip of 2GB 1R RAM, Elfidelity isolation card, Elfidelity U...

Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+
Availability of apps? Well, as of December 2018 Android had 2.6 million apps and Ios had 2 million. Yep, Android has more but how important is that once both are over 2 million apps - how many do you use? I imagine if you went deeper there are likely to be significant differences in apps in differe...

Re: GIGAPORT HD+ vs. eX
Why is ESI now using a USB-C connector and USB 3.1 protocol on the new GIGAPORT eX model? That connector and the added adapter cable (and/or dongle) will add costs. Fashion and compatibility with other equipment which uses USB-C. The cost differences will be very small indeed. Connector, new softwa...

Ron, my experience with digital audio points in a different direction than what you're suggesting in your last post. Hakai with/without USB Isolation Card
The following two clips are from the same Hakai. One is recorded from a USB 2.0 slot on the Gigabyte board, the other is from the USB slot on the Elfidelity USB Isolation Card (£33). Which do you prefer? https://drive.google.com/open?id=1OKZwxdkz_SG1DU_FATwF80mzHSZVrRAW https://drive.google.com/open...

Oz streamer (not HAKAI)
After building the Oz Hakai I have tried a few changes on the Hakai. One makes a significant upgrade to the Hakai sound in my view.

Re: Motherboard Shoot Out
Just for completeness, I can say that the Hakai was running with two strips of 1R RAM (just by luck) and the Intel DN2800MT with one strip of 1R RAM.
I'll post clips of the Hakai with one strip of 1R RAM vs two strips at a later date. And with the USB Isolation card vs a standard USB 2.0 port.

Maybe everyone knew this but I didn't. The Intel J series of motherboards are a different generation of Intel Celeron. So still low CPU.

Re: Motherboard Shoot Out
So, then it's not a motherboard shoot-out, but a motherboard + fitting power supply shoot-out. Still interesting though. It's kind of hard to run the motherboards without a PSU :) But I guess the most sophisticated PSU is in the Hakai. The Asus Tinker Board S is powered by a micro USB connector of ...

Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+
Let us consider the Australian design type, the pick of the bunch is Antipodes Audio. The best sounding combo is CX/EX. The CX is a server with a 6 core i7 processor, even the EX has a quad core Celeron processor. For Roon for example is a high powered CPU server favorable, it is like driving a hig...

Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+
Emile from Taiko Audio claims that the highest specs USB3.1 output of his Extreme server sounds best. Some other very experienced people claim that some motherboards with higher CPUs sound better than these with lower CPUs but only when they are supplied with excellent power supplies. As far as CPU...

Re: Motherboard Shoot Out
OK, Clip B set. Source A was one notch quieter on my computer than the rest (whereas on Clip A, Source D was one step quieter). On this I would rank them from better to worse Source D, Source C, Source B, and Source A. Again I rather disliked Source A and it wasn't until I got to Source C that I wa...

Motherboard Shoot Out
I previously posted this set of clips in the Playground but it ran into difficulties with refreshing. These clips have the Hakai, two other motherboards plus a wildcard. The relative costs of the motherboards is dramatically different. It's been a while since I looked at the cost of a Streacom case ...

Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+
Sopper bought an ESI DAC with 24/96 support and less inputs a few months ago. It was a discontinued model but I don't think he posted any reports of its sound quality. The ESI Dr. Dac Prime Sound is (subjective) exactly the same as Gigaport HD+. Plays in 192/24 and that’s what I wanted. Thanks Sopp...

Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+
I really do wish I knew more about DACs and especially what the secret sauce is that the ESI guys either stumbled across or knew. Extravagant claims are made for many DACs. Few in my experience are as great value as the ESI. I'm going to go better PSU and tidier build before I'd even think about cha...

Re: Mustard Cutting
In what sense did it [the HD+] not cut the mustard? I own three. It sounds great and is bullet proof. ESI has discontinued other models with fewer inputs and 24/96 support. The HD+ does not play 24/96 with any Mac computer. The new GIGAPORT eX does. However, this doesn't guarantee better sound qual...

On the first group of four clips Source B is also Clip B where the rest are Clip A. Among those three I like Source D the best and dislike Source A the most with Source C in the middle but probably closer to Source D. I haven't listened to the second set yet. I'm told if you refresh the page Thomas...
