Re: Advice in upgrade path

I also started with active Ninkas and LK140s -( in my case Ikemi cd player and kairn prea amp ) and have had a wonderful journey, with navigation being provided by the kind members of the forum. Source first is always a great place to start - ADSM katalyst is regarded as very good, if a tad expensiv...

Re: Slipsik 7

That would suit me and whilst a lot of work, would avoid the difficulties of trading in and flooding the market with different versions of Slipsik 6. I am happy to wait until an ideal window of opportunity arises -the Slipsik 6.1 is no slouch and has until now been the best MM phonostage in the world.

Re: Slipsik 7

This is a tricky one. From a 6.1 owners perspective a trade in offer against a 7.0 would be great - this could be done by the dealer or Lejonklou HQ. Any new customer could then buy the 6.1 as it is, or request the upgraded version, if Fredrick has the time to do this. Could the European 6.1s be shi...

Re: Does clearer lyrics = better tune?

I don’t get you, tbh. How do you really know what the song is about? Presumably, through the emotions being conveyed, not the words themselves. As an example, there are many positive words, when expressed in a sarcastic tone, that take on a completely different meaning. In my line of work we are to...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

A tale of two clips! Part 3. The REVEAL! So that’s the story. SING ularity looks like nothing else and sounds like nothing else I have heard. It is really just quite sublime. It gives me a heightened sense of the beauty of every piece of music I have played on it, not by using euphonic colorations ...

Re: Does clearer lyrics = better tune?

Not sure about relationship between clearer lyrics and musicality :

but in my experience, the more musical a system gets- the more emotion is conveyed by the vocalist.

Re: Removing bottom of LP12 (Urika 1) to swap RCA leads - No Jig

When I needed to get into my LP12, I rested it VERY carefully straddled across 2 dining chairs set on carpet to reduce the chance of the chairs moving. Between the two chairs was a step stool on which to rest the Tramp. A photo might make it a bit easier to make sense of the description: temp-jig.j...

Re: Linn Majik 109 and the competition

If you are not planning to upgrade the unity nova for the foreseeable future, it’s perfectly reasonable to accept the ‘source first’ principal and change the speakers to something you prefer. And then upgrade the source when and if you are ready. Source first tells you that musicality will not impro...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Listening for a while now to this second set of clips I hear some of the same things I mentioned regarding the first set. Listening carefully to the double bass I feel it looses some of it’s core and pitch definition in the second clip in favour of a softer and broader sound. I still find myself mo...

Re: Ekos SE/1 w/Kore

At the time I thought the two Radikals were the same and for the price of the Klimax Unit , I could have just abut also upgraded Kore to Keel. But the aesthetics led me astray to a less musical option for the same money. No regrets though as the black KDS/2 and Radikal units look perfectly matched w...

Re: Ekos SE/1 w/Kore

You can't really go wrong either way can you - as both options are at the top of the Linn ladder. I've not heard the Akurate to Klimax Radikal improvement, and perhaps that's why I have a feeling that, in your shoes, I'd put material ownership above musical involvement. I think the pull of owning a...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

The M140s are back in. The Keilidhs weren't really doing it for me, musically speaking. I did play with some driver torques for a bit but it didn't make that much difference. They should be good for the 2nd system though. I've tightened and cleaned up the 140 drivers and they are sounding better. I...

Agreed

Charlie 1’s system has its mojo back with these K20s

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I've have another confession to make. The NAC A5 was also the wrong way around. It would only fit one way cos of the Naim connectors. However, the person I bought them from finally confirmed yesterday the direction, so I removed the connectors and was able to fit that end to my speakers. I've left ...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

To castigate two products on the back of mobile phone clips seems to be over reaching to me. Did no one think that 2 non-musical clips might be more about the clips than the equipment? I see that u252agz has questioned the recordings. Better to hear them in real life before making such significant ...

I'd really appreciate some more opinions on that set of comparisons Robert Lake posted. Why? Because I suspect that while everyone hears the difference in sound character, some of you will be totally unbothered by what beck labels "tune and timing spread out", Charlie "deconstructed" and I "fragmen...

Thanks for that, I was only going to consider it as part of an Ekos se or Keel upgrade and the information about Fredriks Friends does suggest that if my cowardly instincts hold sway, then at least I will not be missing out too much. 650 Miles is some commitment - but for an LP12 absolutely worth it...

I have a Radikal with standard baseboard which sits on a solid wooden unit on a carpeted concrete floor. Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Interesting clips I find these more difficult than I expected, but I am drawn to the two Linn speakers in terms of musicality and tunefulness, even though the Edens are quite good. Of the two, the Majik 140s sound more tuneful and would get my vote - even if a little laid back. Kans are interesting ...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

Back in the day when I got into Linn - the late 80's - source first and mad attention to detail was the secret behind every great product and every great sounding system. The guys who obsessed about the room, absorption panels and bass traps, often self-identified as Audiophiles, were frowned upon....
