Re: More on source first and other priorities
I think it's been said that speakers are The most personal choice within a system especially since they have to look good, have waf, work in the room, And be to your musical taste. I don't know that others have expressed it to the point that they can't bear anything but (almost) one brand, but that'...

Re: More on source first and other priorities
How so? You asked about a system with a level of engagement from all components over one compromised with an unengaging component, particularly uncommunicative/unmusical speakers… Not that a higher system budget &/or higher component price necessarily leads to increased engagement, but I’d argue th...

Re: More on source first and other priorities
Just use a pair of the 3-4 other speaker models then 🤪 If you can’t afford a nice musical pair of speakers from the 10%, balance your budget a bit better, but do so between amps & speakers rather than Monos and lesser source… but you knew that, right 😋 Not really the point I was trying to make but ...

Re: More on source first and other priorities
.. assume the system was engaging with 3-4 other speaker models. Besides, I would hope there is consensus on this forum that Kalla, Sagatun Monos, and Tundra Monos are engaging. .. I was exaggerating to make a point - just normal unmusical speakers like 90% on the market will do just fine. Just use...

Re: More on source first and other priorities
How do you determine that it’s a fabulously musical source and that they are terrifically engaging amps if you’re using uncommunicative/unmusical speakers? 🤨 Why use hypothetically crap speakers? Just replace the speakers - job done, hypothetically 😉 If your hypothetical budget is limited, balance i...

Re: Lejonklou North American power cords
With only 1 ‘Lejonklou North American Power Cord’ in the mix it feels like this discussion needs its own thread, especially as it’s getting off its own topic of power cords and into other cables, and is getting very AS centric… Back to Zee question, with such a mix, why not invest in a number of Lej...

Re: Hermanns System
I was thinking the same as Spannko on Take Five but it’s an odd one: D is very sax forward with less musical support from the rest of the band… E is more enjoyably balanced, but I don’t know that the sax is as accomplished. Overall I prefer the presentation of E - not sure if it’s better tune~wise, ...

Re: Network Issues (was: Källa loses IP addresses)
Final update (hopefully) on my network issues Everything is working well and after a three days of being away, all my streamers are still on the system. The new 108T v3 seems fine connected by Cat 5 to my router and the Sneaky DS units. So the problem has been two successive Netgear 108T v3 units w...

Re: Recommended network components
Is there a ranking of the current Netgear switches according to model? I only know that the current 308T was found to be a close alternative to the discontinued 108T... otherwise there was mention of the 108 v4, but I don't know of any ranking of current Netgear switches - would be interested to fi...

Re: Network Issues (was: Källa loses IP addresses)
I have Virgin Hub 3,0. If i get a new router do I keep the Virgin Hub 3.0 and let it provide the internet access to the 'new router' ? Please don't despair of my ignorance around networks and routers - Im doing my best! At the moment my 6 BT Mesh units provide wifi for most of the house but i need ...

Re: Network Issues (was: Källa loses IP addresses)
Which "Virgin router" do you have - is it the Hub 5? There are quite a few Virgin forum posts about the Hub 5 being poor as a router, with similar DHCP vagaries as you describe, but decent as a modem. You might want to consider investing in a new home router, and leave your Virgin one to modem dutie...

Re: Network Issues (was: Källa loses IP addresses)
Still in the rabbit hole - but mercifully no collateral damage - yet. Changing names didn’t work - but did remind me that it is only the Kalla with firmware v19 which allows this and not the standard v16! Changing the IP addresses to ‘ out of the range of my other devices (. I used .250 and .251) d...

Wow: considering the SM shoes the SK was filling, and the enjoyment it's delivering, that's praise indeed! .. I can say that [Superkikkin] sounds quite wonderful. .. You could try changing the reserved IP on the disappearing Kalla... Try something ending between .200 & .250

Re: Network Issues (was: Källa loses IP addresses)
Easy(?) to try:
Rename one Kalla see if the problem goes away
(they do have different reserved IPs, don't they?)
If that doesn't resolve it
Swap the switches see if the problem stays with the 108

Re: Network Issues (was: Källa loses IP addresses)
Thanks guys I wish I understood a little bit more about networks - I’m always impressed with the knowledge base on the forum. Re: Network Issues (was: Källa loses IP addresses)
Quick question regarding one of my Netgear GS 108T switches. On my Kalla downnstairs - I keep losing the Kalla on the network overnight, and have to turn off and on again the GS 108T. This was happening on my previous GS 108 T until it packed up completely. However this is a new unit and after a ho...

Re: General Discussion about Källa
I thought Kalla was a Protokol device. Källa does not use Airplay ™! Källa's communication protocol is however compatible. Thannko Spannko :) I thought about a comment to that effect in response to Matt, but couldn't immediately find the quote, and the article limiting it to just a couple of apps, ...

Re: General Discussion about Källa
From another forum: "Video from Darko shows that if your app supports AirPlay 2 and the streamer or speaker you are sending your data to supports AirPlay 2 then that CD quality 16/44.1 lossless file you thought you were listening to is actually being compressed to AAC 256 lossy before it is sent…. ...
