The thread I referenced has turned into a fascinating discussion (albeit with a few sideways bits where people have posted some random "advice"). In particular there's been a lot of discussion about from Linn employees how Linn evalute things, including this: I would guess throughout the R&D departm...

Refreshing

Nice to see over on the Linn forum some input from Linn acknowledging that the finer details of tunedem for cable directions etc. are relevant, but only become apparent when everything else is sorted. See this thread: http://forums.linn.co.uk/bb/showthread.php?tid=4545&pid=45000#pid45000 Where philb...

Fredrik - Do you ever plan to do any UK power cords? ThomasOK has done some useful testing on the US ones, and you've now got a good option for Shuko connectors, but we seem to be a bit stuck for the best option over here...

Thanks.

I'd recommend starting by building the network based on a separate switch, and see if your main building WAP does what you need. If you have no performance problems with your control point then there's not going to be any benefit in adding a separate WAP, but if you have responsiveness or drop-out p...

Well, the argument is that you need to have a router to split up the one connection you'll get from your ADSL/Cable supplier, and then in an ideal network you'll want to have all of the DS related kit running off one switch, separate to the rest of your network. This means that what you'd really wan...

Centre Speaker Positioning/Mounting

I have an option to get a new AV rack, with a space for a centre speaker which is 520mm x 400mm x 225mm. My centre speaker (a mk1 Centrik) is 516mm x 275mm x 200mm, so it will fit but be tight! Any opinions on how the sound would be affected by being in an enclosed rack rather than in free space? I ...

Aha, this one plugs straight into the socket? I couldn't tell that from the picture. I used a very similar looking box that had one cable in and four out. All my comments above referred to that. Yes, indeed it does. The article referenced above refers to one supplied by Maplin, who are a UK electro...

Fredrik, I'm a bit confused by your reference to "The best thing about them was that they could be screwed to the bottom of the rack. That made the installation a bit more tidy." I thought these plug straight into the wall... ...or does this relate to your comment about using 5 Linn cables for your ...

Two Silver 5125 Power amplifiers

I have recently changed from running my system through AV5125s to newer Chakra based amps (partly due to a slightly better sound quality, partly for the convenience, sound and aesthetics of being able to use internal cards for my Kabers, and finally to give myself an obvious upgrade path). As a resu...

Definitely! :)

Many people say that it's more musical than the Akurate CD, and close to CD12!

The DS way is not my cup of tea, because it needs a custom server program in the computer, and not a mere ftp server or something. DeQMaster You may not be aware that in the latest version of the firmware for the DS, there is a new "Jukebox" mode, which does in fact just need the ability to provide...

Chakra Aktiv cards for Kaber

I'm looking for a complete set of chakra aktiv cards to use with my Kabers. I think the current list price is £95 per channel, which would be £570 for the whole set (plus the cost of a stereo adapter to go into my 5125 for the bass channels until I can get another chakra amp) so I'd be looking for a...

The one issue to be aware of is that the ReadyNAS implementation of Twonky can sometimes have problems, particularly if you have a lot of artwork linked to files. It's particularly a problem with v5 of Twonky, but has also occurred on v4.1.11. A link to some more information/discussion can be found ...

Fredrik builds to order, I think, so you may not be able to get the Kikkin so quickly.

However, that won't stop you from enjoying the music, you just need to make sure that you enable the internal volume control in the Majik DS and connect it direct to the LK140 and enjoy!

Akurate 221
Akurate 226
Majik 126

Sub advice

I currently have a small REL Quake in my AV system (based on a Yamaha YSP 1000 sound bar - so not very tuneful - but convenient!). I will shortly be combining my hifi back with my AV system, so I will be running Aktiv Kabers, a Centrik and a pair of Tukans. The question is: "Should I upgrade my subw...

Chakra 5100 vs. 5125

I've just won an auction for a Chakra 5100, which gives me a slight dilemma! I currently have a pair of 5125s, and I'm using 3 channels of each to drive Kabers through a Tunebox. I was planning to use the remaining four channels to drive my Tukans passively and a Centrik actively, when my new house ...

This is the analogue model, not the "+DA" model which was later rebranded as the Akurate Kontrol. It has no ability to decode digital signals, but is capable of handling a 5.1 channel input, so can be used as volume control when connected to an external decoder or a BluRay/DVD player with 5.1 channe...
