Re: Painting the 2K array black + tuning the M109
Extremely beautiful. Big improvement. And nice pictures. Thanks!tmilligan wrote: I used Tamiya model paint.
Can you comment on the brush used? Flat shape or pointed? And what size?
And how is the surface treated before painting? Just wiped or also sanded?

Re: Klimax DS torque recommendations
The mechanical principle of the Sealey is different:
If the target torque is reached, the buzzer will sound, the LED indicator will light and the handle will vibrate for approx. 2 seconds.

SK/SR driver
A comment on the torque driver availability. There seems to be a good offer on amaz/us for something that looks much like the Sturtevant. It comes calibrated and I just received one here. http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad210/perhapps/misc/SK-torque-driver_1_1.jpg http://i936.photobucket.com/albu...

Is it good to connect balanced AND unbalanced Out on Urika?
I was ready to install an additional (balanced) connection from the Urika to my ADC, when I faintly remembered that Fredrik had commented on multiple connections from Urika some time ago. I was able to find it: ... both the KDS and the Urika have a transformer based output that is not very happy to ...

In the meantime I used a number of different USB cables and the situation is as expected: They do make a difference. The cables are used to copy files from a Windows7 PC (LS-NAS) to a (hi res) portable music player, not for streaming. So, again, in digital theory there should be no differences. The ...

Re: source last
Why would you propose that they should do? Quite simply because I regard the digital source problem as the turntable of today. Most folks thinking it can't make any difference. But you only have to listen. And taking care about it would be a real source first approach. In fact, there are people who...

source last
A key problem with Linn’s Exact is the ignorance about the source. As we know from many trials, almost every component in the digital domain makes an effect on the music, sometimes to a disastrous level. To ignore this and develop the other end is in my view more ‘source last’ than ‘source in the sp...

Just a small note for those using a LSNAS and copying files via USB: With my E45 the USB3-port sounds considerably better than the USB2s. Not for streaming (not checked) but just for copying. I detected this accidentally when comparing USB cables for the copy process. It is the same effect on both o...

Looking for a portable hires player brought the iriver company Astell Kern to my attention (hadn't heard of them before). A check of their products showed a device for music storage and CD-ripping which seems to do many things right according to the findings related to the definition of the LS-NAS. ...

Optimum, good or acceptable USB cable
Using a LS-NAS, there is occasionally the need to copy some files via USB to another storage device, despite the fact that the copy process does not seem to be lossless. Checking for USB cables it is quickly evident that there is a variety of special audio USB cables, ranging in price from a couple ...

when we compared his music to mine all of the albums was tired a boring sounding. Our conclusion was that somehow the files got corrupted during either copying or more likely by the storage on the usb stick. While I do not worry too much about storage time on a memory stick, I am concerned about st...

I have no idea either, but up to date all copied files here sounded worse than the 'originals' (equally performing disks required, of course). Even a copy on the same disk does not sound the same. So I'm still lacking a good idea for a backup.....David Neel wrote: But how can the copying process corrupt files?

Thanks, this seems a very likely cause of poor performance. But then, is there an optimal size for the gap between OP and IP? (I remember that my standard feeler gauge size did not fit into the gap of another LP12 platter pair, which showed a noticable gap nonetheless.) So perhaps performance differ...

The old OP has been clocked and centered on my 90s LP12. No effort had been made on the modern Majik LP12, neither for the modern OP nor for the old one. The new OP had not been adjusted on the 90s LP12. With respect to centering this would be a difficult task, as virtually no gap between IP and OP ...

LP12 part consistency, outer platter
At a friend in southern Germany I had the opportunity to check an actual outer platter against my own 90s item. There was some rumor that the actual outer platter would be a great advantage over the older ones. The actual version looks a bit yellowish, my own has a tendency to grey-blue. On a Majik ...

* Do not go shorter than 2.4 m, as your system will sound restless. True in my installation, too. This means 1.8 m compared to 2.51 m on A242, which is of course a very rough excercise in contrast to your fine tuning. I'm going to order 4x 2.48 m tomorrow to have 5 channels of 2.48 m for each speake...

Is vertical mounting of Klimax any good
Has someone experience with the vertical mounting of Klimax components? Linn offers the V-clip wall mount set and shows several pictures with a geometrical distribution of Klimax components on walls. As some PCBs I tried worked worse in vertical position (including a Sneaky DS) I wonder whether this...

Noise in Klimax Tunebox
I have the option to introduce a (used) Klimax Tunebox into my system. When testing the Tunebox, I recognized a noise in the K-array when no music is playing. This is not just white noise, but has a sizzling component. The noise can be heard easily 0.5 m in front of the speakers. As my expectation o...
