Re: Culprit - The phono stage?
I’m sure others will chime in on the turntable discussion... I’ve never had the Carbon in my system, but what I can say from personal experience is that on my old Planar 3 going from Elys 2 to Exact was certainly an improvement. On my current RP8 going from Exact to Adikt was also an improvement. Go...

What do inexperienced tunedemmers do then?
I guess they boldly go first and pick A.

X for me too.
It’s like the upper harmonics gel better on the guitar and vocal.
I only listened to the first 30s, so only just heard the bass drum come in.

Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.
Did a spot check on the EU offerings. It seems IKEAs unswitched Koppla (“Connect” in Swedish for anyone that may have wondered but not wondered enough to look it up) is only available as a 3-way here as well. Other webshops do sell unswitched strips with up to 12 outlets so they don’t appear to be i...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Thanks for the thorough reply Tom! So you haven’t suffered too badly from involuntary silence then at least. It would be too frightening if you actually had the discipline to sell off everything taken out of the main system. I think we all do a little “trickle down” to the TV room or somewhere else ...

Re: upgrade path
While you are quite likely to find analog ultimately better, your needs seem fundamentally incompatible with a single source approach. Foregoing a large selection of music you enjoy doesn’t seem worth it. Fredrik’s hint at further advances in streaming is intriguing, but the hakai is already a very ...

A for me. I think beck got it right. (as a side note it is off course somewhat peculiar that "impressive" has come to have a negative connotation on the forum) I would love if impressive sound and musical connection came together. That is just not a given! I know... and I did say it was a side note...

Oh dear... a normal 366 day leap year just wasn’t enough for 2020. Just curious ThomasOK - do you actually not have any form of second system in your home? I just assumed you’d have a bunch of stuff lying around. Or is it that your main system is so good you don’t feel it’s worth listening to someth...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Yep, something very harmonious with the Sondek (or any half decent turntable really) that is just hard for digital to beat. I’m working up the courage to do a Rega vs. Hakai shoot out, even with the risk that somebody finds digital better ;) Didn’t realize you were in pickup problems beck. Maybe MM ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Hmm... not sure we will be sure on this one. I hear the same tendencies but with a less clear preference. There's something about the rubber feet that makes the tune easier to follow for me and directly on the shelf still has that rumbling tendency I heard on the previous clips. But, I can also hear...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I’m also confused about the term “emotion”. A system that triggers MY emotions would be a good thing. But trying to decipher the emotions of the artist and use that as a metric would appear to be highly subjective (in fact almost presumptuous as we clearly know nothing about them). I thought the poi...

I get the impression that one of the outcomes of my recent extensive tuning of my main system is that enjoy music more when I hear it in lots of other contexts. Has anyone else found this? I agree. When you have found the music you hear it in many different places. :-) Yeah, me too. I think it can ...

Re: Random thoughts on hifi
There is a dilemma here that I'm quite certain has been touched upon before. Almost everyone I know have much more modest systems than I do (still, my system is one of the more modest ones on this forum) yet they most certainly enjoy their music. While it sometimes puzzles me that people don't care ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Thank you for listening OscarH. I prefer A. When the song gets going after about 50 seconds the bass groove is tighter with the vocals. Conversely, I find the bass a bit sloppy and vocals a bit harsh on B. At the moment I am not using the hard rubber but I have not decided fully yet what I like the...

After a mere 33 days in transit from Spain to Denmark, my US copy of Bob Dylan's 'Modern Times' arrived. https://www.discogs.com/Bob-Dylan-Modern-Times/release/1596503 All, essentially, triggered by beck finding the cd version one of the most challenging discs to play in his system :) Ah, not quite ...

Hi and welcome to the forum. Always very interesting to hear when people find bliss (or something approaching it) in modest products. Just a question as to your current turntables, as I can't quite get my head around which units it is you find this LAB-400 to beat. You mention a "high end Rega", a "...

Re: Lejonklou Boazu Integrated Amp
I've even come to think that the somewhat idiosyncratic lack of channel switching is an advantage - I'm pretty much the only person in the family who can remember which source is on which input anyway :) From my experience it is a distinct advantage for two reasons: my family never get confused abo...

It's a fascinating process setting up the table. Currently trying to calibrate my tool against ThomasOK's values. The previously mentioned arm-to-plinth bolts seem to be good for this purpose. One thing that quickly becomes apparent when using the torque tool is just how little say 0.2 or even 0.8Nm...

The Boazu is very high on the list when I, at some stage, get around to justifying an amplification upgrade. Everybody seems to be happy; Fredrik, owners and reviewers. As far as I can gather it is likely to be able to drive any speaker I'll ever be likely to afford too so should be pretty future pr...

At first I liked red more, felt the tune was easier to follow. But it is missing bass, which is probably why what’s left seems to come across very clear.
In the end I’d opt for the full presentation of green.
