Re: Linn forum down?
We have temporarily suspended the Linn Forum during the launch period of our exciting new product and upgrades, which runs until mid-October. As this is a staged, global launch, we want to avoid spoiling the launch for customers through early disclosure and discussion on the Forum Let me get this r...

Re: Linn forum down?
I wonder, do you think we're being "played", it's all part of the hype machine and build-up. Close the forum down to increase the speculation, intrigue and anticipation. I've noticed loads of Linn banner adverts popping up in my browser on all kinds of websites these last couple of days, certainly a...

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer
I've updated the link I posted a few days ago to the Computer Audiophile discussion regarding an Ethernet "regenerator" under development as the posts over there have been moved into their own thread. New link is here: https://www.computeraudiophile.com/forums/topic/38968-etherregen-early-general-de...

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer
Yes, this has nothing whatsoever to do with data errors, checksums, resending, etc. There are mechanism that have audible impacts that are totally independent of 100% bit accuracy delivered to the DAC. This was covered a page or two back. Just to re-iterate though, this kind of jitter is not a cause...

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer
Sunbeamgls, I'm talking about at the physical level where 1's and 0's are encoded into an electrical waveform on the twisted pairs of an ethernet cable. At this level we're not dealing with packets and checksums, just encoded 1's and 0's. The 1's and 0's will get assembled into packets later, but be...

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer
Completely coincidental, but after posting that link in an earlier post to an explanation of how/why that USB regenerator device offers audible improvements in a USB interface, I came across an announcement from the same company, Uptone Audio, to say that they're working on an Ethernet regenerator, ...

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer
I can understand it being a cascading effect throughout the network. E.g. noise in the NAS contributes to jitter on it's output, jitter on the input to the switch contributes to noise inside the switch, noise in the switch contributes to jitter on it's output, jitter on the input to the streamer con...

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer
Doze, people use optical links in an audio setup with the intention of breaking the RFI type noise picked up by copper cabling, generated in the NAS, etc. These optical fibre links require media converters at either end with the output of the downstream converter being plugged into a streamer. These...

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer
I understand. The jitter I'm familiar with resides higher up the network stack, and is primarily concerned with voice traffic being sent over IP networks: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/voice/voice-quality/18902-jitter-packet-voice.html Jitter is defined as a variation in the delay of r...

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer
TCP/IP is a transport protocol within the digital domain. Jitter exists in the physical Ethernet layer, which is analog. It's in the conversion from analog to digital that jitter is removed, but a by-product of that conversion is noise, which TCP/IP has no control over. The best description I can fi...

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer
Doze84, There is a device in the receiver called a PHY chip. It's job is to translate the analog waveform on the Ethernet copper pairs into digital data. In order to do that, it needs to constantly adjust it's own clocks to match the clock that generated the analog waveform in the first place. Jitte...

Re: The New Lejonklou Streamer
How about a single digital input for anything other than locally stored rips, such as Tidal, etc. Let some external box take care of that aspect. The digital input circuit could be switched off for those not needing it.

Re: Akurate Exakt DSM
Hi Andy, Thanks for the reply. What I was looking for at the time I posted that was an Exakt only DSM (often termed AEDSM), See here: http://docs.linn.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Akurate_Exakt_DSM So original version of that would be a /0 As it happens, I've now acquired an Akurate DSM/1 (i.e. with analogu...

Akurate Exakt DSM
Bit of a long shot possibly but I'm on the lookout for a pre-loved Akurate Exakt DSM.
Will consider a /0 model, i.e. original, or /1, i.e. with the 4k HDMI 2.0 board fitted, price to reflect, although I would prefer a silver unit.
Any one out there?
