Paolo That is really interesting, what a test, HDD making a difference! As I see it from an IT angle, there can be no difference at the 'data' level, the extraction off HDD and the transport via ethernet will arrive 'perfectly'. Not quite... As with a CDplayer transport, the NAS HDD can be less goo...

it is kind of a roomamp with ethernet input to access a central NAS storage and streaming audio. so you only need the sneaky DS and two speakers and you have music in "every room". compared to a knekt roomamp the input for local audio sources are missing. Does it actually provide other RoomAmp func...

The above eBay advert appears to be associated with someone running "LinnCentres", and producing the www.sneakyds.com website (which has a load more tech specs & FAQ on it). The weird thing about this website is that it's actually hosted on web.mac.com (i.e. free personal webhosting) as can be seen ...

Hmmm...I'm thinking that this might be rather nice as a feed to my AV5103, AV5125 and Aktiv Keilidhs :D (although it doesn't sound like it can replace the 5103, since there's no volume control without using an RCU :( ) I can't justify the cost of an Akurate or Klimax DS, but I can probably swing thi...

I haven't heard anything about this yet, although I've seen the above link in a couple of other places too. I'd love it to be true, but suspect that it probably isn't... There are two things I can't quite work out: - The appearance is completely new, not like the LK boxes, not like the AV boxes, and...

In any case, I have just made a reserve for one C4200 and an Exotik to drive the Akurates. I hope to enjoy it for a while as I am already overbudget. By the way, can I use the DAC in the Exotik (I would have to go for the upgrade) with an stereo source like my mac computer with a digital connection...

What is it in no. 3 that makes separate software necessary? Exactly what is that makes no.3 a source component compared to 1&2? :? In simple terms, the difference is that in options 1 and 2, the PC is converting the stored media (i.e. the ripped CD or downloaded FLAC) into an audio stream , either ...

Inguz Audio - Room Correction for Squeezebox Systems
I know that most people here who are into streaming audio rather than CD/LP based systems are now using the Linn DS kit, but I wondered if anyone had heard of these people: http://www.inguzaudio.com/RoomCorrection/ who claim to offer room correction while streaming audio using a Squeezebox. Personal...

Just a quick update, to say that yesterday I finished off the tunedem setup of my Keilidh's. They are now back on spikes, levelled and tightened up. Final positions are pretty much as at the end of the non-spiked setup, with perhaps 5-10mm adjustment (I've not remeasured). Thanks for all of the help...

Kinos vs. Akurate Kontrol vs. AV5103 as a stereo preamp
I've been musing about upgrading my AV5103, which is in use purely as a stereo preamp, although I'd like to have at least an option for a 6 channel input to support possible future AV usage. I'd been heading towards an Akurate Kontrol, but may have an option to get a Kinos for similar money (both op...

Well, that was quite an interesting hour or so. First time that I've really tried the "formal" tune dem process. It seemed to work well thinking of it like visiting the optician, where they show you two lenses and just ask "which one looks clearer?". Tune dem (if I've understood it right!) is the au...

Agreed completely. Good, but why do you then argue against it  Maybe I should be clearer :) I agree completely that the final price should be enough information. Unfortunately, there are a number of circumstances in which the final price is not clear, especially when it is negotiated by email...

Keep all price negotiations within the thread, not by PM or email, so that the process is transparent to all users and price information is clearer. That is a strange rule. :| Final price should be enough info. Agreed completely, but I think that the idea behind the rule is that all too often on fo...

One suggestion on this would be to take an approach similar to that used by avforums.com, and add the following two rules: 1 - Make it very clear if the equipment is advertised elsewhere, so that people know whether they could be in the middle of negotiating here only to find that the kit has been s...

Thanks Moomintroll. That sounds like a great approach to try and follow, and I hadn't even thought about resetting the crossovers before I start! One question. You say: Given you have a floor to protect, I would try these moves with the spikes out, until you are making small changes Would people exp...

Keilidh Speaker Position
What with all of these threads about speaker position, I'm feeling somewhat inspired to spend a few hours this weekend trying to use tunedem to refine the position of my speakers. I have Keilidhs, aktiv, with 038/2 tweeters, in a room about 4.5m by 6m. The speakers are on the shorter wall. Currently...

Ceilidh, Looks like a nice system to me. I think that a lot of people start with a Classik and small speakers, then decide they want floorstanders, then realise they need a more capable amp... Personally, I've not heard of anyone following a true "source first" approach when upgrading from a Classik...

You're probably right about the fact that I should go for an Akurate DS first, but the trouble is that my stereo system is in my summerhouse at the end of the garden, wherea the AV system (with Squeezebox) is in the main house. I can't get a decent wireless signal there at the moment, but hope to bu...
