Interesting info about the ban on export of raw Rosewood, Thomas. At the time I was told by the Linn rep that the decision to drop Rosewood was based on ecological sustainability issues. But you may very well be right that it was in fact economical politics behind it... It's always difficult to draw...

Thank you for another great report, Thomas! That Cocobolo plinth looks absolutely stunning! Although it's just a photo, I can sense a fantastic richness in the red tones. But as I suspect it's a piece of chopped down rain forest, I don't want it. :( Linn dropped the Rosewood plinths due to their eco...

I have to disagree with this.

The performance of an LP12 is very clearly affected by its support. But whether I place other units or not on the Harmonihyllan shelves below the LP12, matters very little.

Well, not necessarily logical. The objective in this case is to make a small amp with a small price, limited power but great sound quality. A mono design will double the power (which in reality means you can play a bit louder) and also double the price. Not so good. A stereo amp convertible to mono ...

Ha ha!

Everytime I'm asked: "When will you release an X?"
and I reply: "I don't know",
I always get the reply: "Great news! When can I hear it?"

To answer your question, I do wish that a power amp could be housed in a Kikkin-size box. It's not easy, though.

Well, it seems like the result is just like before: Much better with a good preamp. So far, every comment I've received has been negative. The sound is very clear and direct, but musically confused. It's not surprising that people who listen for sound, and don't use musical parameters when evaluatin...

This is an interesting discussion. I must say that I understand your complaints about niceness, Efraim. To me it indicates a system that for some reason isn't good enough for your demands. The main problem could be anywhere; in the source, in the speakers, in the installation. It doesn't necessarily...

You have a point, kgriedl, that a poweramp (or two) would be a logical step towards a more complete chain of amplification. Ideally, I'd like to make both an inexpensive and no-so-powerful amp that is really musical and a brutally powerful and great sounding monster amp. I'm doing my best to make th...

Thanks! I really need to try this soon. And if it's actually better, I'm also going to try it with an additional soft "pillow" padding in between the foam block and the rear end of the port. In an attempt to filter out midrange noise, which I found seriously leaking out through the port. I note that...

No, there won't be any harm to the Kikkin. But it's important to understand what happens. To do any "live" switching of interconnects, first make sure that all system components (source, Kikkin, power amps) are powered from the same mains block. All ground connections of the units involved should go...

Ok, I see. I'd really recommend trying a common, cheap 10-way block if you can find one. Not from any audio company and avoid those with a sophisticated appearance. As cheap and simple as possible, preferably with no switch (or bypass it internally) and as few connections inside as possible. The bes...

Tony, have you compared this to a cheap non-filtered 10-way block? My guess is that it will be a lot better. Quite often the 10-way blocks have a switch, which should preferably be bypassed internally. Especially if it's illuminated. All the filtered blocks I've tried have sounded damped, reducing t...

If we exclude the process of creating a commercial product, I'm still not able to make anything that sounds good in a really short time. Maybe someone else can, but I can't. I haven't heard any Russ Andrews products, so I can't comment on them. The wood gets compressed with time. And it takes very little compression for the fastener (or column) to get loose.

All metal constructions don't need any retightening.

Yes, it's the same with Harmonihyllan. It needs retightening after a while.
