Re: Spotify on Hakai? (wired; headless)
You can alter the default audio device to be the Gigaport. I've done it before, but can't remember how. I did a google search to find how to.

UK Volex power cord
I have a UK Volex power cord that has BAOHING on the cable and the direction goes from the wall plug to the IEC socket. This should be a great sounding power cord, but I'm in New Zealand so have no use for it. It came with an AV unit I purchased from the UK. Would anyone be interested? I have a coup...

Re: DAC discussions
I know with a plain Debian install, alsamixer levels aren't at full for the gigaport device channels. See if you can check.

https://www.mcru.co.uk/product/meicord- ... rk-cables/ have the Meicord cables, a bit more expensive than directly from Meicord, but they do have a money back guarantee if you don't like it.

What length of cables are you using? Fredrik has the BJC best at 2.5m, and the Meicord doesn't come in that length it seems.Spannko wrote: ↑2020-02-06 17:53 Back to A-B tests.
Choose between 1 or 2 :-)

Re: RAM modules
Exactly. Someone with a system that is a little dull sounding could very well benefit from some impressiveness. It is the sum of the parts that gets the end result.

Re: RAM modules
After a few days of running in the 4GB module it got a bit better, but not as good as I remember the other being. So I've just swapped back and the 8GB is definitely more enjoyable. From a sound point of view the 4GB has more bass and treble, more impressive, and the 8GB more mid range, less bass an...

I'm using the recommended Kingston Value RAM. There's only a 4GB or 8GB option with the right speed, so only 2 options to choose from with those.

RAM modules
I've had a Hakai for a couple of years now, currently running Debian stretch with mpd 21.11. I read in a forum post that FairPlayMonty posted about different RAM modules. The upshot is a 4GB module is a single rank device, and an 8GB is dual rank. The difference being single rank can access all the ...

Re: Musical NAS Drives
I've been playing with where the NAS is powered from. I have it plugged directly into a twin wall socket, with a power strip coming off the second socket to power the rest of the network gear. I've tried it on the power strip, in first place, but it's quite dull and dead. Digital is so fragile that ...

How much of an improvement is it compared to the investment? Or could you equate it with a component upgrade? I'm keen to hear one, but there won't be any available until next year
Re: JBL 3677
Both done. Sounds better overall, makes you sing more. Reveals more character in some stuff for sure. Piano is much better. This is not a shock, the insulation in it before was so thin it probably didn't do anything at all except annoy me when taking it out. (It wasn't that hard to do, just had to ...

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
I have a Debian Stretch Hakai, and followed Sopper's instructions. The one thing I did a little differently was I installed mpd first with apt-get install mpd. This installed an old version, but set up the environment correctly. I then built the version I wanted via the instructions which went over ...

Re: FRIWO 12 v medical grade PSU for Netgear GS108 switch
I'm looking at getting a Friwo power supply for my GS108T. The MPP15 seems to be the recommended one. I've noticed that the desktop version DT50 has more current for less money. Does anyone know if the brick designs are better or worse than the wall worts?

Re: Debian/MPD: Recent/Latest Versions?
I just tried out mpd 0.21.13. Nah. It's a bit more hifi, less musical. Not by much, but stay on 0.21.11.
I also had a go at upmpdcli 1.4.2. It's very close to 1.3.8, but I prefer 1.3.8. It's very minor though.

Re: Debian/MPD: Recent/Latest Versions?
Yes, I've really been enjoying the new mpd version too. The way I went back with upmpdcli was to get the source and compile, the same way as with mpd.

Re: Debian/MPD: Recent/Latest Versions?
I recently went from mpd 0.21.5 to 0.21.11 and found it to be an improvement in sound and musicality. In the release notes there are some Alsa fixes for that version which might have helped. I can now play wav files where I couldn't on previous 0.21.xx versions. I haven't tried the 2 later versions....

Initial listening impressions, I like the plain Debian Stretch install better. Richer sounding and more musical.
