Re: Latest records to enter your collection

OK, thanks. Why those two, are UK/US pressings considered particularly good? Yes, I definitely think so. I'm very fond of US-pressings, but there are cases (like The Beatles), where the UK are better. What are actually the main theories for WHY this is the case? I’m sure it’s been discussed before,...

Re: Giella headphone amp

I think the knob is a nice touch. Sure, I suppose it adds a little bit to the cost but then again I'm sure all Lejonklou products could be made slightly cheaper and much uglier.

It's not like this level of "bling" is gonna make it a hiphop-star must have item.

Just as a side note, I have a Hakai (ie not a KDS) and a Marantz CD-50 (not a CD-48) available.

I could make some clips if people are interested.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I may be a bit predudice now but that Beatles clip... LP12 all the way. And let's face it, that's the way it should be, based on source first. Where things could be very different is more modern digitally recorded and mixed music. .....and I agree. My heartbeat rate simply drops more listening to m...

Anyone here experimented with CPUSet and process priority? I've been experimenting for the last few weeks and settled on a config that seems very nice. If anyone is interested I'll post the config: it would be nice to hear if others think it brings an improvement. Haven’t tried any tweaks in Snakeo...

2.6Nm +5notches should be 2.7Nm (to go with the example from HBE) The only issue I have and Thomas knows that one complete turn is 9 notches and I would have loved the tool to rather have 10 notches for a 0.2Nm step. I have seen Thomas working with long bits probably 50mm to 70mm and have seen Fred...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I also wonder what actually drives the improvement from moving the front end.

As far as I can see the basic options are:
- LP12 and amplification works better in new location
- speakers work better without other stuff between them
- both of the above

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Did the move of the front end do much to the experience in the room? Not sure what you mean Oscar. Are you asking if it's better now the system is moved to one side? Yes, but specifically if the move has changed the real life comparison between the two setups. With the previous set of clips it was ...

Agree the naim has better timing, so on that parameter each amp's inherent character is the same as on the previous clips.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Well, compared to some of the changes being evaluated in this thread moving everything several metres is a pretty big change. Have you tried the naim in this position? If there's something in the positioning here that brings out a fuller, smoother midrange that could potentially be very good for the...

Bit of a re-org... ...so can't see me going back to Naim on this system. This system is really just background music whilst I work. However, I value it a lot and it adds a lot of enjoyment to my day. I'm beginning to suspect that the slightly weaker rhythm and timing is distracting my mind a little as I work. It's sl...

(As always, I’m off course playing along on Tune Method learner plates) I think the only thing to learn is to trust whatever you prefer and not look for a 'right' answer - you can't listen to your system through someone else's head. Yeah, you’re right Charlie. I know what I like when I listen to mu...

A for me. I didn’t listen until the band came in (understand from other responses that it eventually did). For me the singing voice is clearer and easier to follow on A, slightly edging out the fact that maybe the guitar was a bit better on B. (As always, I’m off course playing along on Tune Method ...

Great songs, great band, great recording.

Re: upgrade path

With some sources and power amplifiers, resistor based passive pre-amplifiers are a disaster. This is most likely to apply with certain phono stages. With many systems, especially those with digital sources, resistor based passive pre-amps are the most tuneful. This may make sense in a sound- and c...
