Re: Recommended network components
The GS108Tv2 (the best sounding version) is available used on eBay for less than £40. It was originally offered with a lifetime guarantee and the specs quoted something like millions of hours mean time before failure, so they make a solid used buy.

Absolutely no problems with mine either. I can also control Spotify on the ATV with my iPhone and iPad without any difficulty.

I believe the booplinth is cnc routed from a solid block of laminated bamboo yet still has square inside corners. Squaring the corners is a relatively easy task with the right tools.

I’ve heard loudspeaker capacitors getting worse with time, usually the audiophile type.

Yes -captivating and at times bewitching, evocative and haunting; and every other emotion one can attach to beautifully reproduced music. I totally agree u252agz! I’ve heard some very musical systems, but only listening through TM3’s have I experienced a sense of nervousness within myself as a resu...

Mitsuko Uchida, Chopin
Warm your speakers up for 20-30 mins, pour a glass of your favourite tipple and sit back to enjoy this fabulous performance by Mitsuko Uchida.

Re: Superkikkin
That makes it unbelievably good value for money! How so? Fredrik is saying it’s not as good as the Monos isn’t he? I got the impression that Fredrik is saying that the Superkikkin 2 @ €2050 is better than the Giella π @ €2250, which I believe he has said is better than a Sagatun stereo @ about €3000?

Re: Is there a “best” test track?
If I used Steely Dan as a test track, I'd be too distracted by how grated I was by Fagen's vocals to be of any use when it came to evaluating the equipment. Too bad they didn't have Freddie Mercury as their lead singer. Have you got any recommendations? What do you usually use to evaluate a new com...

Re: Is there a “best” test track?
Something like Tracy Chapman or Eva Cassidy can sound pleasant on almost anything but something like this https://spotify.link/tN3FAKyikDb can be really challenging on systems which struggle to play in tune. It’s not necessarily any better than a Tracy Chapman track for system evaluation, but it cer...

Thanks lindsayt. I’m not entirely convinced I’ve got any answers tbh, mainly because I’m not entirely convinced I understand the questions!

I wonder if Linn use the tpa3251 because it sounds good, or because they can buy an amplifier on a chip for only £3.50 🤔

Re: What Makes a Loudspeaker Musical?
I agree Rutger, there’s practically nothing written about how to build a musical loudspeaker. I was asked to recommend a book, and in all honesty, I couldn’t recommend one. They’re all just a collection of loudspeaker research, none of which focuses on a loudspeaker’s ability to play something as si...

Thanks Rutger. That makes your findings doubly interesting! Internal damping is something I’ve really struggled to get to work well. However, I think my methodology may not be very good so it’s not been possible to come to any definitive conclusions. Tuning the enclosure volume without filling is re...

You can get 18mm birch ply here: https://mdfdirect.co.uk/product/birch-plywood-cut-to-size/18mm/ Joe Akroyd used steel sheeting in his top line 7 litre loudspeaker (Eden?). It produced a very refined sounding speaker, but sadly lost the musicality of the Coniston R’s. In my experiments, chipboard wa...
