Re: Spotify Stream On Event
Coincidence that Spotify didn't sound good yesterday after the latest app update*? I hope so... : ! * I haven't rechecked settings yet : / I notice that the new software enabled volume normalisation and has added features to adjust stream audio quality automatically (selected by default). These sou...

Re: Forum issues are discussed here
Tricky. I suppose that a new visitor to the forum could well legitimately find the information on old threads very interesting and like to post a question as a result. However, maybe in practice this is rare. On balance, if it keeps the bots at bay, seems a reasonably initial restriction. The spamme...

Re: Spotify Stream On Event
I'm not sure we should wish for the arrival of Spotify lossless. The enjoyability of Spotify as it is may well be a happy unlooked-for consequence that is of no concern for Spotify themselves, and the changes necessary for lossless could disrupt the signal chain. It's no guarantee that Spotify lossl...

I'm using the Volumio Spotify Connect plugin, so maybe that tells the Spotify app it has no volume control

When I connect Spotify App to HAKAI, the Spotify App tells me playback settings are unavailable and I cannot change the volume from the app. This is on Android.

It's coming back to me ..
I found in the past that alsamixer volume was set to zero
To check this, connect an ssh session https://volumio.github.io/docs/User_Manual/SSH.html
Then run alsamixer https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alsamixer
You can then check what the Linux volume levels are set to

I did sometimes experience what you describe when I was developing my plugin for Volumio. Do your settings match these: Screenshot_20230211-101831.png Screenshot_20230211-101858.png It was some time ago, but I recall having to power reset HAKAI with the DAC disconnected, then repeating with it conne...

Re: The value, appreciation of music in younger days and at some age
Most of my life music has been a pretty individual pursuit. In contrast, in the last couple of years, I've found digital music in the home has made it a much more inclusive and social activity, leading to discovery of much more music involving the whole family. At the same time I've experienced a lo...

There's also "You never fail until you stop trying" One of the hardest things to judge is when to recognise you need to stop trying and turn a possible success into an actual failure. Years ago I started a mobile software business with some friends, but after 8 years of tenacious hard work, we had ...

I feel so pleased that those two unknowns hit me - they probably wouldn't have surfaced if I hadn't done all that manual labour. This reminds me of something I have observed over the years: if I have problem that I have been unable to resolve, or a tricky choice, I find a walk seems to unlock the i...

I found this article about Jacob Collier really interesting https://newatlas.com/music/jacob-collier-audience-choir/ By all accounts, he’s a bit of a musical genius, the likes of which we’ve not seen since Mozart. Can you change the ipad wifi to connect to the Amplifi instead of the router? You can also use the Amplifi app to check that Kalla is listed as a client with the IP address you expect. Then you can connect to the Kalla IP address in a browser on your ipad.

My question is how would I integrate apple tv into my system so audio was handled by the Kalla, and at the same time the TV showed the picture. I use Apple TV with the TV and Hakai connecting via AirPlay. AppleTV is connected to the TV via HDMI, so source switching is done by the TV. I tell the App...

A Netgear GS308T turned up yesterday and I swapped out the GS108Tv2. No other changes - eg power supply and network cables unchanged. My immediate impression is it is slightly more impressive and I find music a bit more engaging, tho a bit more raw and fatiguing. I'll give it a couple of weeks to ma...

Re: Turning things off improve your music?
Quick update: I started recording times and power consumption when I thought the music was more enjoyable than I remembered (a pretty vague and hard to judge assessment).
No patterns at all so far. I've also switched to recording when I think it sounds worse, as this is much less frequent.

That just never worked for me. It started as a pair of dedicated runs (1 x 2.5mm2 and 1 x 4mm2) off the main board and then moved to a dedicated distribution board - I go back and compare every now and then but no change so I just use it for a bedside lamp :) They sound lovely and clean but musical...
