Re: European power strip

Oh, got me worried now :)

When you compare the opening twang of track 1, don't you find it seems to make more sense on the pre-1st clip?

Re: European power strip

Here you go Fredrik, you can decide for yourself with a couple of different tempo tracks. Carbon brush on the left is KK-first. Brush on the right-hand side is Radikal first. I'm not going back to Radikal first. I'm confident (for a change) that you will once again prefer pre-first, but we'll see......

Re: Re:

Did you really find preamp first better this time? That's really interesting. You were one those who tested this before and found source first, preamp second being better than preamp first, source second. Another one was Paolo, who compared again (after I insisted) this year and still claimed pream...

Re:

The order in my power strip is: Preamp, Radikal, Slipsik, ... I could not find your recent comments on this. Google let me down and I couldn't recall the thread. Anyway, I tried KK > Radikal/Urika > 4200 again and must say I was very wrong. Your order is much better. It's actually a nice micro-upgr...

Re: Amp Options

Thanks Thomas. Plenty to think about.

Do you think the gap between Ekos SE and SE/1 is bigger then Akurate to Klimax Radikal? I seem to recall Fredrik thinking the newer arm is quite a bit better. Whereas, no one here seems to think the Klimax Radikal offers very much more.

Amp Options

Thinking of upgrading from 4200/D to Tundra Stereo. However, has anyone compared KK1/D and 'X' power amp to the Boazu? What I'm asking is, can the Boazu pre-amp section compete with KK1/D? Benefit of Boazu is that I could then afford to upgrade my arm to SE/1 version, but if the KK1D is better than ...

Re: Boogie Factor

This week alone I have experienced two or three (to me) decisive moments listening to music through hifi systems. A week ago I might have argued that the timing of old Linn is better but not anymore. I agree with Fredriks take on the matter. Put simply I think that old Linn can present a boogie + (...

Re: Boogie Factor

Just the desire to want to move along with the music - foot tapping, head nodding, air guitar, whatever does it for you! haha, I'm more of an air-drummer, in private of course :) For me, those things all form part of musicality / musical engagement. Perhaps my idea of boogie factor is wrong and I s...

Re: Boogie Factor

Thanks Sunbeam. Kans were also good at this so I wondered if it was a non-ported speaker thing, but suspect that's too simplistic and probably just coincidence. Boogie factor was a key decision for me when choosing my current speakers - they're much better at it than the Akubarik and 3677, for examp...

Boogie Factor

Some people prefer Valhalla LP12 to later versions, or Kan 1s to Kan 2s, often quoting that something was lost in later versions, the original had more boogie etc. I have a feeling I may have picked up on what they deem so important, although I'm not sure. My Ninkas were able to really boogie on som...

Yes, I think so too. It made me want to listen all the way through that clip, for the first time. I'm sure it's even better in front of your system!

Have you tried torquing the arm Height bolt? That's a nice one to do, that doesn't require a jig.

Re: re-torque

Anyway I have proved to myself again that a properly torqued deck sounds significantly better than the traditional dealer setup. It is so much better that I am surprised that more dealers do not use it. I am only aware of one dealer in the UK that uses the torque method and he is in the south of En...

Re: Upgrade: Katalyst or LP12

I'm not saying you don't have a fault or setup issue, but thought I would mention this anyway. The Ekos SE anti-skate dial was incorrect pre-serial 11064. Mine is an early Ekos SE and I was advised by Linn to use something closer to 2g with my Akiva. This was also backed up with recordings posted on...

Re: Am I the only one using this trick?

Never using my iPhone for music. It's sooo very much better at home. Agree, a proper system is much better and enables me to listen much longer too. But good enough is OK too. Things can always be better. Why deprive yourself 20 mins enjoyment just cos you know it could be better? It probably helps...

Gutted I couldn't go with friends last year. They really enjoyed it despite not being into ELO that much. Recently saw U2 at Twickenham play the Joshua Tree album. They use the world's largest screen. It worked really well with the album and new film content by Anton Corbijn: https://www.youtube.com...

Re: Am I the only one using this trick?

I'll be surprised if my girls want my vinyl. I know this is a generalisation but I think women are less into kit. They are more interested in getting music played than how it's played - the easier the better. And tbh, I don't blame them, especially as even streamed music is enjoyable these days. Now...

Re: Am I the only one using this trick?

Can't say I've ever thought much about it.

The last Taylor Swift LP is noticeably distorted on one of the 4 sides. Can't say I recall the arm going back and forth but might check for that next time. btw, I bought it for the kids, not me ;)

Yes, i hear it too. This time I prefer the blacks - on my Windows laptop instead of iPhone. I didn't know which clip was which either, in the Chrome tabs. I admire your perseverance. Maybe sell them and try another pair of Silvers.
