Re: Bends In Wires

...If you have cables that resist bending, however, the consequences are much bigger when you try shaping them. A cable that is pinched or under stress (meaning that if you release it, it will pop away from its locked down position) often sounds bad. This is interesting! I have always had a bad fee...

Re: Digital Volume KDS/2 and Sagatun

Interesting discussion, I have taken the Exakt route so I am "stuck" with DVC (I assume that the volume control in Exakt is digital). I wouldn't be too concerned about the digital volume control specifically, since there are many factors adding to the final sound of a system and the volume control ...

Re: The New Lejonklou Streamer

If MQA can compete with up to 24/192 just using the bandwidth of 24/48 FLAC makes it interesting. What they do seem to be hidden, or maybe I have not searched enough? As Fredrik stated it seem to sound ok, but I have only heard it using a Meridian USB-DAC connected to the PC. Not the most ultimate ...

Re: The New Lejonklou Streamer

Thomas, sorry, no offense intended, but after reading the pages on the CA forum I was fed up with MQA. I have to say I do like neither the technology nor the philosophy behind it. MQA is not lossless like FLAC or ALAC and Fredrik would have to pay a lot of money for a MQA licensed streamer. If MQA ...

Re: Balanced or standard interconnects?

I would just like to know what interest ther would be for a balanced cable improving on the Linn Silver This sounds exciting! B: 0 S: 3 I am very interested in the cable itself, without connectors! I would like to try to build an unbalanced cable with it. Please contact me if you're willing to sell...

Balanced or standard interconnects?

As this forum is the forum gathering the most quality focused people I know of, it would be interesting to check how many that use balanced interconnects v.s. standard interconnects? It is not a question weather balanced is better or not. I would just like to know what interest there would be for a ...

Re: Which is the optimal length of analogue interconnects?

It would be interesting to compare shorter cables as well. From a few dm to 1,5m or so. As with K400, likely there is an optimum lenght. Indeed! 1.24 m is an intruiging length (though the "total" length might be the imporant parameter this requiring the initial cable length not be exactly 1/2 of 2....

Re: Widening your taste in music

I'm keen to learn which upgrades, tweaks or changes do members feel brought about a widening in their taste in music? If the answer is many or all then which ones do you think were most effective? Thanks. This is an interesting question. Apart from my early changes, where I got my first hifi, first...

It's also important to have switch and NAS (in that order) on a separate strip, connected to a wall socke...

Re: DS killer

You get the best quality with recording to analog tape, mixing and mastering in the analogue domain and converting in a last step to DSD256 or higher. There might be some that record like this, but they surely represent a very small part of the industry. I can not say I know which recording techniq...

Re: DS killer

It is absolutely ok to say DSD is not compatible with Exakt and there is no one who would not accept this but to malign DSD and to say there is no reason to exist is another thing. I agree. It might be right to dismiss DSD on theoretical grounds, but machines are not theoretical things, they have t...

Re: DS killer

Linn do not support DSD because it is not compatible with their Exakt-System. Are You sure this is the primary reason? Linn have argued against DSD long before going for Exakt. I'm sure both PCM and DSD can produce very good end results. Dogmatic fixation to a specific technology seems unessesary. ...

Re: DS killer

There must be a streamer that comes close enough to a Klimax DS that isn't stupid money. Why? Two arguments against; 1. Anyone making such a product would set the price relative to the competition so the price can be set high. 2. Linn do have quite a large market share and can therefore split the d...

Seriously, I do feel that something has changed. In the old days you could buy an entry level system from Linn and just enjoy the music even if it was kind of "low-fi". I think this still applies. Anyone heard a Linn Basik (the Rega alike turntable of the early nineties) thorugh a top flight Isobar...
