Re: Olskools System and Listening Space
(from incoming mains to furthest away) Preamp - source - power amp Source - preamp - power amp I decided to revisit this but it was inconclusive. I think preamp (Kikkin) first is better HiFi but my musical preference varied between tunedems. I always wonder what impact starting up the Radikal is ha...

Re: Back to Black
Interesting. So what's that mean then? Perhaps wonderful Blacks like none other, awful or even faulty Silvers, just plain got it wrong, or some other mysterious reason. Find out in next week's episode of Back to Black.

Re: Olskools System and Listening Space
Here's a great example of why we feel it's important to use the correct Linn/Lejonklou mains lead: http://www.lejonklou.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=237 And if you want the short version, Hugo started the thread cos he couldn't hear any difference between his new KDS and existing Unidisk. It was narrow...

Re: Back to Black
I find 1151 more of a single piece, like it's all more integrated together, although I could say it's more mashed up too. I find with 1152 I want to listen to the music for longer. I can hear (and maybe even feel) some emotion in Paul's voice. The bass guitar struck me as particularly tuneful wherea...

Re: Digital Volume KDS/2 and Sagatun
I have also noticed that some people don't really want to know. They've already decided to let the preamp go and would rather not experience the difference a great analogue volume can make. That's a stance I can't identify with, as I want to know all there is to know. I've done this before, perhaps...

Re: Digital Volume KDS/2 and Sagatun
Thanks for posting u252agz. Also found it very interesting, particularly because you're not under any pressure to make a decision. You're just noticing the changes to your everyday listening enjoyment. Surprised the KDS/2 sounds better at around 50 and not nearer 80 as was always thought to be the c...

Re: For those interested in all analog recordings
I bought the Emily Barker 'The Toerag Sessions' LP and whilst it's good, I did miss the touch of a talented producer. I just think they can add so much more atmosphere and interest to music. Stripped down makes a nice change but I think that sometimes 'more is more', not 'less is more'. Just my 2pc....

Re: The New Lejonklou Streamer
Well I got to read Don's amusing post so I'm smiling. Please don't go Don. Having just read it, I think Azazello's comment was fine, kind of said with exasperation (of the Linn forum in general) and a little humour too. I don't think it was directed at anyone specifically. Others added humour too. I...

Re: Sharing the sound of our systems!
Although this clip sounds quite anemic, the feeling in Dylan's voice comes through well. Thumbs up! Thanks! I picked that track cos I played the LP that week and remembered it was mainly guitar. I can find plenty of songs with clean tight bass (even using 140s) but it played havoc with the smartpho...

Re: ThomasOK's System
Glad it went well. Passive will certainly make your life easier when it comes to comparing the ATCs against the JBLs.
I like passive in terms of its cohesiveness. The music seems less pulled apart when I've compared it to a well set-up aktiv system. That's not to say passive is always better.

Yes, looking forward to reading about your findings. How long do you think the passive crossovers will take to run-in? Mind you, if you prefer passive to active from day one then it doesn't really matter.
Re: JBL 3677
The 3677 is only available from Cinema installers within the UK of which there is only a few. I called a couple of the larger ones and they don't even stock it so certainly wouldn't be able to dem them first. They are approx £1,100 a pair in the UK so not something I'd ever purchase without a dem.

Re: Sharing the sound of our systems!
Inspired by the JBL tread I think it is time for us to share bits of sound recorded from our systems. My example is an ipad recording of a track from an all analog recording of "The Dirty Dozen Brass Band" featuring G. Love. This is how I like it! :-) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/69650589/IM...
Re: JBL 3677
Thanks ML. Do they offer similar bass to 212s then? Absolutely not. Once you have heard 3677 I think you will understand not only how difficult it is to compare its bass to 212, but also how unimportant the question becomes. Why? Because all normal loudspeakers produce Bass of a certain quantity an...
Re: JBL 3677
Thanks Christian. My fear was that they only output similar bass quantity to a reasonable sized stand mount.christian wrote:I used to have 212 and JBL 3677 produce much more in terms of quantity, deeper and more musical bass than 212. 212 is not even close.Charlie1 wrote: Thanks ML. Re: JBL 3677
How would you guess the quantity of bass compared to M140s with the 2db bass cut? Difficult question, I know. Just trying to get an idea if 3677 is nearer a stand mount in the amount of bass it delivers. I prefer sloppy bass to no bass :) so stand mounts are no good for me, plus they often sound a ...
Re: JBL 3677
I'm fully convinced that after a demo with 3677's, you going to sell your M140's in an instant! The performance 3677 can deliver in the bass region is really good. ok, they will not go as low but I'm sure you doesn't mind that handicap considering the superior performance over 140's :) (Owned 140's...
Re: JBL 3677
Keltik is a not as musical as 242, so not as good as 3677 either. Keltik has SLAM and deep bass but lack the precision in 3677. (or in 242 as well, even if I consider 3677 a lot more precise) I prefer GREAT control and musicality as in 242 and 3677. 3677 has SLAM in the mid bass! But bass junkies s...

Re: How I judge HiFi
I should mention for charlie1 and others that I also highly recommend Jack Johnson. If you like "In Between Dreams" you will probably like all of them. I use his first one "Brushfire Fairytales" all the time for tune dems. The music is relatively simple with voice and acoustic guitar as main instru...

Charlie, you lucky, lucky guy, no Jack Johnson!!! You are in for a real treat. You've about 5 albums waiting for your listening delight. All his albums are so fantastic I had to buy the downloads as well. The music is simple but excellent and the recordings are suburb on whatever format but especia...

Re: How I judge HiFi
I find orchestral works with simple tunes very easy to use. Such Beethovens No 5 or 9. His Moonlight Sonata as well. Also Jack Johnson's in between dreams album is a great tunedem test. I will try Beethoven next time I tunedem. Haven't got Mr Johnson's album - any good? I had great success with a '...
