Re: Volumio Process Priority and CPU Set
I tried the script and the plug-in, and prefer not having it. Assigning the priorities makes it less musical and rich.

Re: Volumio and Airplay
I've been trying over the last couple of days. It does seem to be better than from a NAS via network share playing the same file from the same location. It's a real hack at the moment to get anything to work. I put iTunes on my laptop for a quick test, and it played to Volumio via airplay just fine,...
Re: Volumio.
The reason I gave it another go was the old "looking for an improvement". There have been many times I tried a recommended change and thought no, but then after a while try again, and hear it's value. I seem to need to be "ready" to accept some changes. The changes which also helped were the disabli...

What direction did you go for the DAC? R2R or a standard design?
Re: Volumio.
I've spent some more time with NFS, and I have to say I prefer CIFS. NFS for me is less musical, I'm disconnected from it, whereas with CIFS I'm right in there. I've given NFS another go, and now prefer it. I've also set the audio buffer in Volumio to it's max at 12MB and disabled the dlna server i...

Re: Volumio.
Volumio comes with it's own operating system. It will wipe the disk and install Volumio as the only thing on it. It does use upmpdcli. If you install Volumio from the image and update mpd from the link, that's all you need to do.

Re: Giella headphone amp
Giella is the third product built on what I call my 'Level 2 circuits'. The first one was SINGularity, the second was Entity. Level 2 consists of two techniques that I use to tame very low and very high frequencies. They shape the ability of the circuit to carry the emotional content of the music a...

Re: upgrade path
Can you expand further on what you found with the placement of the router and switch? I hope yes. Do you have any ideas? I haven't done much with those components, they're sitting on old phone book's on the floor (carpet). I have some skeets I'm not using, maybe I should put them underneath?

Re: Home Network tweaking (was 'Buy or Rent')
I've found that using good network cables between all components makes a difference, not just between NAS, switch and player. I'm using the Blue Jeans cables. I tried some between the Netgear switch and internet router, and between the internet router and fibre box. It has the same effect as between...

Re: Volumio.
Installing the newer version of mpd will fix the stability problems and improve the music. It has a way to revert to the original and back again, so you don't lose your options. Don't worry about tweaking the mpd.conf file, it's not necessary.

Re: Volumio.
Something else I'm enjoying with Volumio is Radio Paradise. It's installed as a plugin from the main interface and gives you all 4 channels in FLAC with meta data and album art. It did seem to hang with the installation, so I rebooted it and it was fine.
Re: Volumio.
I just had a go at using NFS. There was hardly any difference, but I did prefer CIFS (Samba). I don't think reducing the buffer size to 512 and removing the buffer before play is actually needed, after some more playing. It's more a personal choice anyway. There is no sound differnce fatjulio, but t...

Re: Volumio.
Thanks for sharing, FJ. Hopefully you won't mind me asking some questions: How do you get a copy of the "original version of Volumio that was recommended"? I only see version 2.799 on volumio.org Are you running volumio on the recommended Hakai hardware, so the PC (X86/X64 image), or some other har...
Re: Volumio.
I've recently been reinvestigating Volumio, since I'd gone to a Debian Stretch install with mpd. I've now gone back to Volumio with a couple of tweaks and I find it's better than the Stretch setup. The original version of Volumio that was recommended does seem to be the best. Of course it has issues...

Those speakers look really interesting. None of them have a filter, even their multi driver models.FairPlayMotty wrote: ↑2020-07-20 23:06 http://www.tocaro.de/en.html
The 40e is a similar concept and still available new. Interesting topic Charlie1!

Is this an opportunity for another Lejonklou product? Hakai power supply. I bet it would sound a lot better than the standard one.

I've been having a look on the web for a power supply with that much current, and none of them seem to have a barrel output connector. Can you find a link to a suitable one Fredrik?

Re: Some observations from cd replay
Hi Beck, I've just tried putting a little bit of soft rubber/silicon (from the back of a gift card) under the ethernet cable where it meets the shelf, before going into my Hakai. Damn, it's better! So now I'm going to try that with all cables that go into it. Do you have a preference for the materia...
