Re: HAKAI playground

I do have Exciter ripped lossless, so let's try this again: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cchouv3omel5cc8/B9F02282-47EF-46C1-AFEB-EC72F3FFF431.MOV?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/q90pt7ymswoowbb/44EC0084-9115-41A6-A39E-F0989361A459.MOV?dl=0 Clip 1 for me as well. Re: HAKAI playground

Every change makes a difference, and a tune based method will reveal the differences in the systems ability to play tunes. I don’t dispute that. I just feel that determining whether I’d want to live with the change takes longer. It may be more tuneful, but it still may not be good enough. Or, as Li...

Re: HAKAI playground

This highlights a problem I have with short A Vs B comparisons. A may sound better than B, but only an extended listening will reveal whether A is “good enough”. I’m beginning to wonder if a short comparison “tune dem” is more useful for selling HiFi (“buy the one which sounds best to you on a 30 s...

Re: HAKAI playground

The second clip, ...02.MOV, is the song I know. I don't know the song in the first, ...70.MOV, clip. There difference is unsettling, especially in a song I grew up with. (timing's off? (1st clip, not of me growing up ;)) I agree that the second clip is definitely better and the first is almost unre...

Re: HAKAI playground

Since it's been so long since I built my HAKAIs I figured it would be prudent to look through Fredrik's first posts to see if there was anything I missed or forgot. Sure enough I found something: HAKAI is controlled with your phone, tablet or computer by a web interface. Use a browser of your choice...

Re: It really ties the room together

I think it's just a voicing thing like the recording/production of an LP can better suit one system over another. Musically, I'm sure the LP12 is better on most material, if not all. What do you think though? It's always weird this end and that clip just seemed to sound very nicely balanced. I do w...

Re: HAKAI playground

The difference here is much smaller than I would expect it to be. I wonder why? Leaning towards the second clip. I've been wondering the same thing. I'm laboring under the impression that storing music files on a NAS and feeding them to the streamer via a switch has the potential to be the most mus...

Re: It really ties the room together

Thanks, Charlie1! Your comments intrigued me. I wonder...what is it that could make a speaker (or any down stream component, for that matter) more compatible with one type of source over another? Is that purely a hi-fi aspect or is it something that can be explained in the context of the tune method...

Re: It really ties the room together

Many more thanks to tokenbrit for his incredible patience and generosity, HAKAI is now being fed by the NAS as it should be. The difference between HAKAI via NAS and via USB memory stick is interesting. I posted a couple clips in the HAKAI Playground here: https://www.lejonklou.com/forum/viewtopic.p...

Here are a couple clips comparing HAKAI in "normal" configuration (HAKAI based NAS, Netgear GS108t, BJC cables) vs. the same file played directly into HAKAI via a USB thumb drive. Re: Volumio.

I'm looking forward to your clips, Pete. There have been promises in the past of comparisons between SO and Volumio but IIRC nothing has actually been posted. My own experience of Snakeoil and Volumio is separated by considerable time so your clips will be quite instructional.

Just a little update...system mi8 has gone digital :: gasp :: With a HUGE help from tokenbrit, HAKAI proper (with Volumio) is up and running! Well...mostly. There's currently a problem with the NAS so until I get that resolved I'm playing music files off a thumb drive plugged into the back of HAKAI....

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Which Keilidh’s have you got? I’d guess the earlier ones with the mesh grille over the tweeter? They're actually very late production examples (s/n: 54,7XX/54,7XX+1) with 015/3 tweeters, 013/4 woofers, and composite bases. The tweeters were damaged so I replaced them with good ones out of a pair of...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Thank you all for your responses. I have to say I'm surprised at the results as I fully expected exactly the opposite! To me the setup in the first clip doesn't sound as "good" but is more musical, in that I find it easer to follow the tune and make sense of the music, but it's presented with more o...

Very interesting and definitely a bit of fun. Both sound good in different ways. Now the question is: Should I play your first clip back through my system and see what happens? Re: Linn adikt - question and need opinion please

If your budget and other logistics allow it, you may want to consider getting the AT cartridge and putting the remaining funds that would have gone toward an Adikt into a better arm. A VM95 on an Ittok will almost certainly out perform an Adikt on a Basik. I don't know this for certain but the sourc...
