Poppup,

I haven't heard the Akurate DS, so can't comment. Once I'd decided I wanted the Klimax, that was it. Sources that I trust tell me that the Klimax is an even bigger step on from the Akurate than the Akurate is from the Akurate/Unidisk cdp. As you'd hope for the price?

Have you also noticed that Linn are now recommending Ripstation MicroDS to rip CDs instead of EAC? A download is available at http://www.linn.co.uk/ds_software MicroDS seems to be twice as fast as EAC.

As far as I can see, there would be no point in Linn producing a controller for the DS - you can use any uPnP control device. For instance, the Nokia N800 Internet tablet using the Media Streamer software, which, incidentally, looks very similar to the Linn GUI. The Linn GUI is "only" for those who ...

I've found this very interesting reading so far. What's the forum's opinion on the stock cables supplied in the UK?

Isn't this the same remote being discussed on Topica and apparently available from Russ Andrews in the UK for 90GBP?

Hello Bbyte, welcome to the Forum, lots of nice, helpful, people here. I too often wonder why Linn don't do a headphone amp. The usual answer is that they can't better what others already do. If that's the case, does anyone on the Forum have any recommendations? I also use my system just for stereo ...

I've seen the Hifi World review - best digital source they've heard. Retail price just under 10K GBP if I remember. As much as I would love one, I think I'll be investigating a Squeezebox first, until I've built up a music collection of 24bit recordings.

That's probably a very good observation Fred - I was dealer trained in LP12 setup, although several years ago, but never touch my turntable. I prefer to leave it to a dealer who has more recent practice, although I don't have a gig or speed-disc/strobe anymore, which limits things. Apart from the oc...

I was told that the cover was there to satisfy safety regulations in Canada. Mine is off.

I couldn't see the point of the earthing washer either - it won't affect the sound.

Unidisk earthing?

Just reading a thread on Topica where a dealer has recommended earthing the cases of Unidisk 1.1 and Kinos (I presume any Linn pre-amp) together with a short wire between case screws to improve sound.

Anyone come across this before or have any comments?

As an owner of three Klouts, I would agree with everything that's been said here. I switch mine on and off from the mains socket, which is the same as pulling the plug. Linn actually suggested this as a suitable way of switching them if the rear switches can't be accessed. Like Fredrik, I would favo...

Klout Audio Sensing Switch - any alternative?

I've been missing the auto switch on feature of my Klouts ever since I replaced my Kairn with an Exotik and don't have any other LK series boxes which could do the same thing. I know that Linn used to make an audio sensing unit which would work with newer pre-amps and switch the Klouts on, but Linn ...

Leo, do you mean that if you have had the counterweight off and back on, that you have to rebalance it after a few days and then it's OK? I can't remember if this was specific to the Ekos 1, but I do remember that it was possible to get some "creep" from the rubber insert in the counterweight as it ...

One additional thing - I've just noticed that my stylus is picking up more fluff on some LPs with this new Tramp. A sure sign that the deck is working better - the stylus is tracking better.

Leo, 1) I think this also applies without the Keel in the equation and it's a question that has been around as long as the Trampolin itself. As I have always understood it, the Trampolin is intended for use on the LP12 where it is to be located on heavy furniture, fixed shelving etc. Linn still advo...

Just thought I'd report that I fitted a Trampolin 2 last night and ending up listening to vinyl until well after midnight. To use the old saying, "Simply Better" than the original it replaced. I was listening to albums that haven't been played for many, many years - certainly as good an upgrade as a...
