Wow, thanks Linnofil. I've never ventured into the world of modification, but am interested by these tweaks. I probably won't have a chance to properly investigate until after Christmas. The two changes are not entirely clear to me yet, but hopefully that will change once I lift the lid on my Majik ...

Thanks for the feedback guys. In general, the bass seems to overshadow or even overwhelm the mid-range, causing some loss of detail, which makes the tune harder to follow, particularly in complex orchestral peices. I find the 650s to be somewhat less tuneful than my main system. dlorde, I know what ...

Thanks for responding bbtye - it was interesting to hear about your friend. This is my fear also. In fact, having reflected on the matter, I've decided not to take it further and stay with my Linn system. It would be an expensive move and one which I am not confident would give me long term satisfac...

Tune Dem of Valve Amps?

I've had some spare time recently (as you have probably realized by all my posts!), so decided to listen to a Single Ended Triode Valve amp for the first time. I often read Hi-Fi World who are big fans of valve amps, especially SETs, so I thought it was time to hear one for myself. The amp was a Aud...

Thanks Ceilidh - I'm glad it's working out. I'm still a bit stunned the difference it's made, although I probably had my Ninka's in about the worst position possible! One question for all forum members - since Tune Deming the Ninka's, music is now much more involving and tuneful and the hi-fi is muc...

Thanks for the feedback bbtye - very useful. I wanted to buy the HD650s online because the savings are considerable (nearly 50% off retail), but I didn't want to listen in a shop knowing full well I wasn't going to buy from their store. I was confident my father-in-law would buy the Senn's for close...

Thanks Azazello. Had another go late last night with unfamiliar music and was able to fine tune even furthur. I also found it easier to use the suggestion that you are auditioning for a new musician (thanks to ThomasOK - 'How to learn Tune Dem' thread). I was able to stay in the room in front of the...

I also have an Audio Technica AT-637, but it's nearly 20 years old and the pad is very dry and rough, so I've not used it on the Akiva as a precaution. How is yours holding up? Do you apply any liquid to the pad?

Tune Dem of Headphones

Has anyone had the opportunity to Tune Dem any headphones? I currently have Sennheiser HD650s which I have already decided are not a very good match for my system and my father-in-law has agreed to purchase. I'm particularly interested in Grado headphones, perhaps the SR-225s, but any feedback would...

I've had enough for one day - it gets a bit tiresome after too long. However, it's made a big difference already so I'm really pleased. Apart from being more melodic, there's that 'specialness' back again. Just one example: the start of 'Telegraph Road' is really haunting once again and the whole tr...

Hi Lejonklou, I'm exhausted - moving Ninka's backwards and forwards and sideways for an hour! I'm finding quite large changes in position easy to notice or large changes in toe-in, but anything subtle is beyond me at the moment. One question - I do find it a little easier to listen outside the room ...

I had heard the term Tune Dem before, but never been shown what to do. I'm keen to try this on my Ninka's today. I think this was done by the installer origionally, but I've completely changed the room around since then, so it will need doing again. Hopefully, I can get some advice if I get stuck. C...

Was in a bit of a hurry this morning and have recalled a couple more points. Firstly, I don't know the extent to which a Keel is dependant in order to obtain the Ekos SE improvements. I know you're lucky enough to already have a Keel, so it doesn't effect you, but I just wanted to make this point in...

Hi Bonzo, The upgrade to an Ekos SE was very important to me in terms of overall musical involvement. I may well be in the vast minority here, but I've had an issue with the LP12 for a long time (maybe since the beginning when I had a Valhala, Akito and Pre-Cirkus, but can't recall for sure). It was...

I've briefly heard a Klimax Twin Vs Majik 6100 driving Ninka's at home. Each had it's own plus points - there wasn't one that stood out as heeps better. As far as I recall, the 6100 with Aktiv Ninka's had more seperation between instruments, whereas the Klimax with passive Ninka's had more bass with...

I've always been advised to use the green paper sparingly - approx once a week if you're using the deck an hour or so per day - otherwise it will wear down the Akiva prematurely.
