Re: 1985 Linn Magazine

Hopefully the Linn Archive should grow as the guys at Linn have the time to work on it - I've just sent them scans of some old articles and adverts that I have and I know of someone else who is scanning the later Linn magazine. BTW - this magazine is earlier than 1985 - I got my copy from the factor...

As with your option 2 it is normally the most obvious melody that I use. I sometimes replay the entire musical piece in my head - not sure how, but that's what I intend to do and it seems happen. Back in the early 90's, I sat in on a wonderful Linn dem at one of the big hifi shows - it was probably...

Glad to hear you're having fun. I'm not sure how much truth (if any) there is in the Ling doing "bad things to the mains". I'm sure this story came about due to earthing issues experienced by Naim pre-amp users when they added the Lingo and their pre-amp had been relying upon earth to the LP12. Ther...

Another question: Since upgrading to Dynamik I have to readjust volume for surround levels every time I turn the SC off with the power switch. Any solutions to this? (The volume settings must also be set 10 points higher than pre-Dynamik to obtain the same listening volume...) Are you sure you are ...

I'm sure some of the Linn literature from the 80's refers to Mazak 5.

The KK/1 is much better. It is much easier to hear what is going on and tunes are easier to follow.

I had to raise the AV 5103 up on pairs of old LP12 feet in order to ensure that it does not rest on the Trampolin suspension. The original feet of the AV 5103 are hanging in the air . . . I emailed Dave Williamson about this and possible solutions. He advised that it is possible to refit the Trampo...

Re: Receivers

...I have generally found the Arcam AV receivers to be easily the most musical on the market. I will even go so far as to say that their first FMJ preamp/processor came very close to the Linn AV5103 in musical reproduction - close enough to require a couple of A/B comparisons to sort out the winner...

Thomas, thanks for that - I thought it was the same thickness as the older Tramp board. Suitable sheet aluminium can be found on a well known auction site - I've just ordered a 330mm x 330mm x 3mm piece for around £10 inc postage to give this a try. I think I'll do a mock-up using ply or something f...

Re: trampolin

Hi Thomas Talking of multi layers, there was one guy who had so many layers of mana he cut a hole through his ceiling! How about a thin rectangle of aluminium with trampolin feet as you say designed to accommodate the different sizes of Linn That's pretty much what I was thinking of. A thin sheet o...

It was me that asked this question on the Q&A. The background to it was that the Linn engineers had explained some of the benefits of placing the Urika inside the LP12 - vibration reduction being one of them. As I have an original Trampolin spare, I did try this. Let's just say, it's still there, so...

Interesting. I wondered how long it would take for something like this to appear. I'm of the opinion that this might not hurt Linn too much at all - I would have thought that the vast majority of people wanting a Keel had already bought a real one and anyone looking to upgrade an LP12 would go Radik...

I used a Sizmik 10.25 with aktiv Kabers (Klouts) with a Kairn, then Exotik, then KK before I upgraded to 350As and was very happy with it.

From what I can remember, all of the Brilliant SMPS were the same part number - only the upgrade kits differed depending on what it was going into as some kit needed parts changing. FWIW, I once had a faulty Numerik and used the SMPS from an old Kairn with no problems.

True, but there's no audio processing in the Radikal.

I used to own 6 Klouts: 2 latest Banana-ones, 2 early BFA-ones (before the last change) and 2 BFA-ones manufactured right after the last change. And there was a clear audible difference between those 3 pairs, even with Uniks connected to them. Some first-hand experience - thanks Axel. My Klouts wil...
