Re: Linn Unidisk SC

Hi Csfan Yes, I still use my Unidisk SC for playing SACD and it still reads the SACD layer. It is very rare that I use it for anything other than SACD as all of my red-book CDs are ripped to a NAS and accessed via the KRDS. I use mine as a transport, as described in the document link above. As far a...

Re: Cut your own vinyl?

An interesting point Don, that converting from one domain to another does something pleasant to the sound. It's definitely not just applicable to vinyl and turntables though. I find that taking a Hi Res file transferring it to tape at 15ips also gives me perception of a more pleasant listen. I tend ...

I think that you were very lucky to enjoy a truly flush horizontal surface to horizontal surface fit of the outer platter to the inner platter. I happen to have three LP12 here at the moment. One is a year 2000 model original outer platter, cirkus from new. I have just installed a Karousel and the s...

Re: Linn Unidisk SC

No problem - it is a pig to find! Just spare a thought for the poor people who have had one of these for years and never realised that it can be used as an (excellent) transport! Today, at eBay prices, it is a very cheap, incredibly good, SACD transport giving a full multi channel analogue output. T...

The information that you require can be found in the User manual here: https://docs.linn.co.uk/wiki/images/c/cf/ENGLISH_UNIDISK_SC_manl_rev3.pdf but it isn't easy to find within the document. Go Page 32 and then the User Option Table. The bit that you require is actually under "Knekt". You need to c...

I left mine in place as I didn't think that it would affect anything - as to whether you should or not I have no idea!

I did remove all the plastic standoffs as potentially they could vibrate.

Re: LP12 Bounce

My starting point, once that I have the springs re-tensioned roughly back to where they were before strip down, is to get the arm board flush and parallel to the top-plate /plinth. I'm assuming that you haven't removed the top plate- and that the bounce was OK before surgery. I find that just twisti...

Re: How we define "good sound"

I think Dasher that you mean concert pitch A (above the middle C) is set at 440 hz. Sometimes 442 or even 444 has been used. In older times it has been lower than 440. Methinks Dasher plays a B flat instrument, on which Concert A is C. Trumpet? Clarinet? Recovering clarinetist here. Both correct! -...

Re: How we define "good sound"

As I understand it, the 'pitch' is the exact frequency of the signal - eg 440Hz being ascribed to the note of middle C. Naming the 'note' is of course man's artefact. The trouble starts when describing 'Tone" - because the word is used to describe more than one thing. A 'scale' is made up of tones a...

Whilst there have been numerous scientific papers which link 'listening to music that we enjoy' to 'endorphin release' - notably a publication in Nature Neuroscience back in 2011, a quick search with various keywords failed to bring up anything that scientifically links 'playing the tune' to endorph...

Re: Mounting Krystal MC on Ekos SE/1

Hi Defender The way that I do it is to usr on of my heavier (thicker) vinyls and the look across the disc so that the far side appears level with the side that you are viewing from. To see this I look through the gap between the arm and the vinyl. I then carefully move the arm to set it parallel to ...

Re: Sneaky leaves his digital comfort zone.

One speaker option would be to have wall mounted Katans. I have mine mounted in this way - they are are the rear speakers in the 5.1 surround system though. As with the positioning of a turntable, wall mounting the speakers vastly reduces the options for tuning their final position. If you are placi...

Unless you really like drilling holes and then filling hole then I doubt that you will be 'Tune demming" the wall siting. Taking this as the case then I strongly recommend that you locate the shelf at a height that allows you to remove a record without having to bend your back!I am also 1.80m tall. ...

I also have the 407s, driven by the 006t 'energiser and I ;love mine. I changed the standard ear pads for the leather ones that are standard on the 507. Not for one minute would I say that the tune is easier to follow - but they are much more comfortable!

I too have a mixed system, with 'Space' available on the DS but not on the LP12 and I added 2 x Sizmiks to my Espeks. I handled the issue in exactly the same way as Pete describes above. Tune the system with the LP12 and the subs 'off'; and then bring the subs 'on'. Get it so that the extension is a...

I can tell you that, even before it arrives, it will sound better than a Urika 1 would sound in my system - as I don't have a Radikal to power a Urika! Having recently put a Kisto into my system I can confirm that this is one very good pre-amp. Does anyone have any spare feet for a Kisto? I need two.

The ones off the Kinos and similar AV boxes will appear to fit.

I'm not concerned about condition - can't see them!
