Re: A tune that brought Pharrell Williams to tears, apparently

(if my info is correct his bassist, the man in the black long coat, is a Linnie) Tony Levin? He was with King Crimson I think. I don't anyone that likes them enough who might know ;) I love his playing. I was listening to 'Don't Give Up' after Leo's comment and there is a lovely tuneful bass line a...

Re: A tune that brought Pharrell Williams to tears, apparently

I agree that the moment she dropped the fur coat was goose pimple time. Great perfromance. I've never been a big fan of Starway to Heaven either. Not only was it obviously heavily overplayed but I also can't help but listen to lyrics and those really are pretty ridiculous "To be a rock and not to ro...

Re: How do you listen?

How about that? A really interesting idea for a new thread. I like this subject as I feel it is likely we listen in a number of different ways. So here is how I listen. First off, if I am listening as described, listening as the main activity, I almost always listen to vinyl. The exception would be ...

Re: A tune that brought Pharrell Williams to tears, apparently

Eh, so so. Doesn't do it for me either. It does make me wonder what she really sounds like without all the effects. I was also liking it better before they decided she had to add in the weird dance moves. Oh, well - to each his own. Not too wild about the Stairway to Heaven rendition either, especia...

Re: 1973 lp12 for sale

That unit has the basics of a very early unit but it definitely has had a number of minor upgrades. The five main bolts have all been changed to the newer black ones. The springs, grommets, washers and nuts all have been upgraded as well. As already mentioned there is a new AC cable. I believe the b...

Re: Lejonklou Boazu Integrated Amp

It is quite a good review - I am very happy to see it. When a review of a couple of products starts out "What separates a great designer from an average one?" you know you are in for a treat. It is very cool to see someone with as much credibility as Chris Frankland calling Fredrik a great designer ...

Re: Do we really want a full understanding of music from our hi-fi?

I find this thread quite interesting, in part because it is dealing with several different ideas. I'll get the boring Hi-Fi part out of the way first. I don't think our systems are anywhere near giving us the full understanding, or the full enjoyment, of the music we play on them. In the early years...

Re: The meaning of Source First

I think pretty much everyone on here takes it as obvious that you can make a system unlistenable with a really bad component placed anywhere in the chain. I think most would also agree that there is a tremendous amount of expensive and very expensive Hi-Fi that would fall into that really bad compon...

Re: JBL 3677

I pulled this from another thread as it fits with this discussion: Any sense that those on the fence about buying a pair of 3677s should plan to pull the trigger sooner rather than later, in case Samsung change things? Presumably distributor / dealer stock of 3677s would still be 'made by JBL' for a...

Re: JBL PROJECT K2 S9900

Actually they didn't used to. Indeed they made a big deal of their Hi-Fi and pro speaker design teams collaborating on the M2 design. But it used to be that the Revel speaker and the JBL speaker design groups were completely separate with different opinions about how things should be done. But now t...

Sorry Ron, but I think you missed a couple things such as: "The 3677 screen channel system provides natural sound quality for music and dialog in small cinema applications with convenient all-in-one enclosure." Or the fact that the heading for the page is Home/Products/Cinema Market/3000 Series/3677...

Still running around the JBL threads here and there from time to time trying to find out more about the 3677s. Re: Lejonklou Boazu Integrated Amp

That would be most expensive single unit. My answer to your other question depends on your long term goals. If you want to end up with a a better source, Sagatun and Tundra to give you a really good system and the flexibility to use a sub then you might temporarily construct a system that isn't stri...

Re: Lejonklou Boazu Integrated Amp

Would you elaborate a bit further on how such a high level connection would be made on the Boazu? My understanding is the Boazu has two pairs of banana style inputs and doesn't support a spade connection. For example piggybacking a REL Neutrik to spade connection along with speaker connections isn'...

Re: Lejonklou Boazu Integrated Amp

You can indeed try out the subwoofer as you suggested using the Kikkin. It would be awfully fiddly for normal use but will let you get a feel for what the sub would bring to the party. It is indeed 1dB steps on both. In addition the Boazu pauses on every 10dB and the Kikkin changes color at every 10...

Re: JBL PROJECT K2 S9900

Well, despite my warnings to others, this thread has taken me down a bit of a rabbit hole. It turns out Harman/JBL (now Samsung) has been busy the last few years. Interestingly, their latest research has lead them in a direction somewhat familiar to those of us 3677 owners. First off I present the J...

Re: JBL 3677

I have to agree that this level of musical performance for the small outlay is quite unexpected. It is also interesting that a number of happy 3677 owners have had some pretty heavy hitters in the past yet find them quite satisfying. I think it would be interesting to know the previous speakers owne...

In the editorial in the same issue Paul Messenger talks about the state of Hi-Fi publishing and the possibility that some magazines send out reviews ahead and allow manufacturers to actually modify them.
