Re: Gigabyte N3150N-D3V vs. Asus E45M1-I Deluxe Mini-itx
I will simply transfer the Windows OS/Asset server SSD and the primary music files SSD from the LSNAS. Unless I've missed something (quite possible with my level of software knowledge!) that should work and not require too much effort with a screwdriver. Yes, that should work without problems. Why?...

Re: Gigabyte N3150N-D3V vs. Asus E45M1-I Deluxe Mini-itx
I'm looking forward to your experiments with HAKAI hardware used as a NAS, David. The main challenge is the NAS software, which can be tweaked considerably. Unfortunately this is not my area of expertise. I will simply transfer the Windows OS/Asset server SSD and the primary music files SSD from th...

Re: Gigabyte N3150N-D3V vs. Asus E45M1-I Deluxe Mini-itx
I will next week (temporarily) change my HAKAI into a NAS to compare with the LSNAS. From Azazello's comments on motherboards this could be a big step forward. If it works, I will need to find another motherboard, as my 3050 D2P has only two SATA sockets. Lemmy identified the J3455-D3H - is anybody ...

Thanks! This makes me keener to try a Hakai NAS against my current LSNAS.

Re: HAKAI
My experience is that, once up and running, the only issues have happened when switching between DS and Hakai - neither Volumio nor BubbleDS likes to lose its exclusivity on the LSNAS.

Re: HAKAI
Thank you for the report David! Looking forward to hear about your long-term conclusions. One thing that might not have been discussed is that the variation during burn-in are quite big. I think you should listen to the HAKAI for a few weeks, feel how it feels, and then go back to the ADS, rather t...

Re: HAKAI
The verdict so far is provisional! First the issues in getting it up and running: 1. The difficulties I had getting Volumio to work were immensely frustrating but can be overcome with strict adherence to Azazello's instructions. 2. The difficulties I had getting Volumio to communicate with my LSNAS ...

Re: HAKAI
Apparently he rather likes it as his ADS/3 is up in the For Sale section... Yes, I saw that. And that made me want to write: David, please don't sell your ADS until you've lived a while with HAKAI. You need to get to know it and decide whether it's really better in all aspects and whether you can t...

Re: HAKAI
My thoughts after a very late night listening to music are that the HAKAI is exceptional in terms of value for money, and is very musical and enjoyable to listen to. The primary impression I have is that there is a lower noise floor and more musical insight. This has not been a strict A/B comparison...

Re: HAKAI
Thanks very much for the info guys, this is exciting news as I've been trying for years to get a decent sound from a digital file.I decided to forget about the easy stuff (Spending cash) at the moment and concentrate on getting volumio up and running on a laptop and compared to other distros Ive use...

Re: HAKAI
There's a digital volume control in Volumio, which you should turn up to 100 when your volume is controlled later in the chain. If you disable the DVC in Volumio, it doesn't produce full volume (100) but is instead fixed at some lower setting. I complained to the Volumio team about this, but I'm no...

Re: HAKAI
tokenbrit, thanks for the info on routers. I think I've now ruled that out as the problem, as other things have started kicking off! Shock horror! Volumio has been (please note past tense) connected to the LSNAS. It turns out the issue was partly in my Windows settings on the LSNAS. But even when I ...

Re: HAKAI
I've spent time this morning with some peripheral items, so I can concur that the GS108T is an improvement over my GS105. The blue jeans ethernet cables arrived today, they are a good step forward from my previously selected Belden cables, lowering the noise floor and letting more information though...

I've had several deep breaths!
Yes, I'm at settings/my music/add new drive.
I'd like to publicly thank Alister Purbrick of Tahbilk Wines in Victoria, Australia. A bottle of his 2017 Viognier has been instrumental in maintaining my sanity these last two evenings, :)

Re: HAKAI
Update: HAKAI apparently working fine, except it can't find my music. LSNAS apparently working fine. From LSNAS I can see that HAKAI is part of the network. From HAKAI there are no other drives visible. This appears to be a volumio problem. Have searched the web for answers, none applicable. Current...

Re: HAKAI
Thanks! I didn't use etcher as it wouldn't let me select an internal drive, only USB. Is that correct, and could I solve this with a SATA-USB cable?Azazello wrote:
You will have to "mount" the Volumio image to the SSD, you can't just extract it. Etcher does work, but you have to put it in "unsafe" mode.

Re: HAKAI
Azazello, Thanks for your alternate instructions. Unfortunately, I am no further on. What I have tried so far: 1. Download volumio, extract image file to usb stick. Usb stick then boots HAKAI, but I get lost trying to follow the volumio instructions. 2. Download volumio and extract image file to FAT...
