You're welcome David ,glad to hear it.David Neel wrote: ↑2021-12-31 19:08 Thank you Lego! I've already established my preference for preamp first. I did that when I still had a Urika. On your clips I ranked Kairn-Lingo-Linto first, and Kairn-Linto-Lingo last. Accordingly I've swapped my Entity-Radikal for Radikal-Entity. Nice!

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I’ve decided to have a go at building a pair of speakers. I thought the first step would be to determine if drive units have an “innate musicality”, and if so, what is the magnitude of the differences. So, here’s a couple of videos comparing a couple of woofers I just happen to have (ie they haven’...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Thank you Lego! Very interesting. What appears to be missing is the order that some on this forum have preferred in the past: Lingo - Linto - Kairn And compare that to Cookin's Kairn - Lingo - Linto In other words, pre amp first versus source first in the strip. (Those are in my opinion the only tw...

Before we go to the results ,let's talk about the band. The music is a Crusaders track ,you might not be familiar with their music, but no matter your preferred genre you will have heard or have some of these musicians in your collection. Re: JBL 308P and 708P
I am not sure if my understanding is right but that ST STA350BW is directly functioning as a power amp so there is for the 308 only signal conversion analog into digital and the 350 is some kind of a digital power amp? „Two channels can be provided by two full-bridges, providing up to 2 x 50 W of m...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I am impressed by the JBL 308 it was an wonderfull example about their capabilities. They seem to be a little far away from the back wall in your setup but it obviously works well. Have you tried them closer to the wall? I've just plonked 308s down Defender.I want to put my Ninkas out of the room b...

Re: Moving Coil Vs Moving Magnet.
If you dig in the Linn owners club on the Wam, you'll probably find the story of DavidHB, who was a big fan of the Linn Adikt until he eventually had built his LP12 to the Klimax spec and finally changed for a MC (I think a Krystal at first). I myself "stepped down" and bought a Krystal to find the...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Here we have, 1) Kairn then Linto then Lp12 plugged in that order. 2) Linto Kairn LP12 3) Kairn LP12 Linto 4) Kairn Linto in one distribution block and lp12 plugged straight into double socket shared with distribution block. All Lingo 1 Not in that order, but might be. WORKIN' https://drive.google.co...

My last upgrade was an Akiva and when I got it home the sound was flat .Through Linn I managed to track down the bloke who set up my first deck.He brought it back and he said it didn't need much. But that 'didnt need much' was the difference between boring sounding and music playing I find it hard to...

Re: JBL 308P and 708P
Just experienced another JBL 308 moment . I've been listening to Sarah Vaughan Brazilian Romance album for years and this is the first time I've realised/felt but don't know for sure that she's reading the score as she sings, uncanny . What if she’s not reading the lyrics but 308’s are just making h...

Re: Moving Coil Vs Moving Magnet.
..the 76/S was a big step forward, the Nagaoka MP300 significant better than the Grado Prestige Gold, Arm matching is important and it's worth noting that many older and budget tonearms were not designed to work with moving coil cartridges. Rigidity, bearing quality and compliance are variables whi...

Re: Moving Coil Vs Moving Magnet.
I was just wondering if MMs do something that MCs aren't as good at. Mmm, sort of. MM can give you a sense of solidity and weight that a lot of MC carts lack, but not all MM carts and not all MC carts! As I said, up to about £500 I really don't see the merit in MC carts. You don't get MM carts abov...

Re: Moving Coil Vs Moving Magnet.
I don't know if I could say I prefer one or the other, it's a matter of context. They are not the same. Generally speaking, MCs have more air and fine detail and MMs sound more solid and robust but these are fairly huge and imprecise generalizations, There can be a lot of overlap. I certainly don't...

Re: Moving Coil Vs Moving Magnet.
Is the dilemma about MC or MM or is it what you would like to hear in your ears? About the tune that is most preferable to you related to the music you play. A tune that thrills and moves you from the A-side to the B-side of the record, that moves your legs to a dance. It is also technically about ...

Re: Moving Coil Vs Moving Magnet.
First things first. Have your family banished you to the back room on Christmas day? Did they find your hi-fi related banter/craic not to their amusement? Secondly - what phono stage do you have - does it accept both MM/MC? Happy Christmas Leo :) Yes Discodave didn't get much out of them ,which is ...
