Re: SSD more musical than HDD!
I respect Romaz highly, he tried a lot, but noone tried on servers as much as Emile Bok from Taiko. So I am curious what you think about the Optane. Matt Thanks Matt! He's very careful in his approach, I suspect Emile is too. You probably know he is. The Optane is highly promising, hopefully it's a...

Re: SSD more musical than HDD!
Interesting comment from Taiko Audio to this topic: "As files sourced from streaming services are cached on your OS drive before playback, which is an Optane PCIe drive in the Extreme, we were forced to move towards PCIe storage for locally music files, as streaming was outperforming local music fi...

Re: SSD more musical than HDD!
Thanks Matt, interesting. The group test I saw was done by a group of guys using largely the same hardware as the Extreme (motherboard, CPUs, RAM etc.) and their consensus was that the Intel Optane was the best for the OS. My prior experiments with PCIe (M2 or microSD card) were not close to the Int...

Google the Primo reviews and look at the images - it's pretty obvious how the guys behind the Primo dealt with the power issue.

Re: Random thoughts on hifi
Science? What science? Can you provide links to the “science” please? Also, can you provide examples of “digital remasters” which you think outperform earlier CD releases? The science on HiRes relates to the potential of the human ear - that's indisputable. You can use Google Spannko - it's rather ...

Re: SSD more musical than HDD!
Kept reading about how great Intel Optane PCIe was for SQ. Bought one on eBay and will test it relative to the Intel 320. I expect it to sound worse than an Intel 320 based on everything else I tried but I'll find out early next week, It's used in the Taiko Extreme and was top of a group test of os ...

Re: Random thoughts on hifi
More a recognition of the fact that a lot of things has to fall into place to create good music. Couldn't agree more - my HiFi journey has been blessed by musicality. Early on it was largely luck. Listening carefully to equipment at demos, taking it home on a loan/return basis and often returning i...

Re: Random thoughts on hifi
I'm with the science on HiRes. In my view the one really good thing to come from the HiRes movement is a whole array of digital remasters that are often better than any CD of the album. The LG V30 does sound good through my HiFi and will serve its purpose as a portable audio player. It also confirme...

Re: Power supply
Update: I have tested the RGeek 200W adapter, model number is LD120180 (meaning of model number is likely 12 Volts and 18 Ampere, which is the rating). It gives a high pitched noise through the speakers, regardless of whether the power cord is grounded or not. Not sure if it's a faulty specimen or ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I am not sure that the word damping is the right word to use regarding what I seek. Maybe it is more about getting everything to vibrate the same way avoiding individual parts working against each other creating disturbance in the system.......... I understand you but even underneath the CD transpo...

I found it very striking how devoid of ringing that case was after damping. And also that Cambridge Audio use damping beneath the transport.

It would be nice to find a cheap and musical class II power supply to replace the Nano 160. Failing that, does anyone know whether the Streacom ZF240 is class II? It is not cheap, nor are the Streacom cases into which it fits. But in the context of my system, it's not completely unaffordable and wo...

Seems that I have to build a Hakai. :-) I think it would be wise Beck. My struggles with my Linn Ikemi lasted fifteen years. Charlie1,
If you see any Celestion A3s for sale with busted tweeters go for them. Great speakers and the guys in Maidstone made new tweeters for me when I blew mine. Most people think you can't replace the drivers. Big units though.
