Re: upgrade path

Eli7,

Do you think it’s a hifi problem or a music problem?

Could it be that you’re fed up hearing the same old things and struggle to discover new (to you) exciting music?

Just a theory...

Re: Oscar's system and first world problems

Getting there! I didn’t quite expect to have to put such a hardcore tool to a turntable but here we are. After being provided with the correct torque values for the RP8 by Tom (many thanks again) and finally managing to get all the mini bits and adapters in place to use the SR 36/4 I quickly found A...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I'm inclined to agree with beck here... though I like both. Now, not being an LP12 owner myself (and frankly somewhat terrified of becoming one due to what follows) all I know about it is what I've read on this forum. My understanding is that there is a near infinite number of variables and adjustme...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

So I've been living with the Geddon LP12 and still perplexed as to what folks enjoy about it. I just can't see how an ARO and DV cartridge could fix it but I suppose I have to leave the door ajar to the possibility. I also wanted to understand to what extend the SBLs were impacting the musicality s...

beck,

Knowing how you actively seek integration at the expense of separation, I think I can hear why you are happy with ‘after’.

Wonder what you’ve tweaked this time?

I am glad you liked it ThomasOK and that you are picking up the glove that I threw at you! :-) Great story and piece of music OscarH! Can you tell me a little more about that piece? Merry Christmas to all! As tradition has it, from my mother and her mother before that, this song is played on the evening (Midnight) of the 23rd. Re: upgrade path

The “Absolute bargains” Thread is a bit low on turntables. I’m sure everybody would be very interested if there was a genuine killer to be had in the £500 range. So far actually naming products has not characterized this thread... The first turntable I bought as an adult was an old Rega Planar 3 at ...

C I think.

I get the impression that the bass is a bit boomy on D, though I’m not sure that’s a characteristic which can be accurately assessed via a clip.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Interesting!

How does it sound in the room?

I recently, by mistake, had Spotify running at 96kbps instead of 320 and it was so bad I thought something was broken...

Edit: meant to elaborate a bit... once back at 320 (or other reasonable resolution) lossy formats aren’t too bad really.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Yeah, I enjoy digital too. And that’s important because there’s lots of music that I want to listen to but it just wouldn’t be practical to get it all on vinyl. But it’s an unfair comparison - there’s something very comforting about getting a vinyl ready for playback and eventually hearing the sound...

Charlie1,

I am fully onboard with the indecision consensus here ;)

Unserviced does seem to have a thinner presentation in the clips, but I'm not convinced that is better.

Wonder how their relative performance will hold up over time?

I first bought Modern Times on cd and was very disappointed. Then I bought in on US vinyl and it was a totally different, very enjoyable record. Interesting that this particular recording is causing you so much hassle, beck. I’ve always found the band to have a great, natural drive on this very song. To my ears the clips doesn’t quite do it justice, but glad it works in the room now. I also realize I’ve overplayed my hand earlier, I actually...

Re: Best sounding LAN cable for DS

Long cable to switch, then 2.5 m cable to streamer (and 2.5 m cable to NAS) is the best way. Switch and NAS on a separate power strip, but connected to the same wall outlet as the system is also the best way. The only drawback with this arrangement is that NAS and switch require space by the system...
