Re: HAKAI playground
Here we go: N3050N-D2P vs J3455N-D3H. Re: Source HAKAI components Cross-Country
William, it's not one of the 3 originally recommended m'boards, but the J3455 is in the same range, and 'David Neel' has had some decent results with it... Available here: (in the UK ;) https://www.mini-itx.com/~J3455N-D3H What I wrote was, emphasis added: Motherboard impressions: as both a NAS and...

Re: Linn forum down?
I'm sure that Linn had the best of intentions.... but closing a forum for the patently specious reason of essential maintenance is not going to win friends. As an occasional poster and regular reader, who has attended forum events over the years (LP12 40th and Exakt launch), it feels that previous c...

Re: Motherboards
I'm still looking for another motherboard. A couple of weeks ago the N3160N-D3V seemed to be available only in countries using the Cyrillic alphabet, judging by google responses. It is now showing as available from sellers in both Netherlands and France. Since I'm a monolingual Brit I can't see whet...

Re: HAKAI playground
Volumes were unchanged, but that doesn't mean they were equal....
We are also hearing any mastering differences, so I'm not actually sure of the relevance of this comparison. If you have lots of vinyl (like me) you need a good LP12. If you have little or no vinyl, go digital.

Re: HAKAI playground
As Matt says, the top shelf is used for one only of Radikal, Hakai and DS, so I can't disguise which is in use. This is necessary only because going Mono with the amplification has taken away two shelves! The streamer is usually on another Lack table, but I removed this to give better access to powe...

Re: Mains improvement, after the wall socket
Spannko, You opened a real can of worms! Thank you! During this exercise I have discovered that: there is a BIG difference between different wall sockets; a Tundra Mono takes time to warm up, even if the downtime is about 60 seconds; and the non-DC filtered power strip I borrowed was actually DC fil...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
These were different power strips and cables. I have been coping with too many variables on this one! Number one is standard cables and generic power strip, two is a specialist strip and cables, which I felt sounded better but lost the tune. I now think I know why it lost the tune. Thank you for all...

Were these comparison clips pulled down already? I get an error 404 when trying to open any of them. This is very disappointing. Maybe someone can loan David Neel a Klimax Katalyst device ?

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I must admit, I'm not finding the Akurate Vs Hakai comparison as clear cut as everyone else. I'm having a slight preference for the Akurate, but it's very close. So close that I can't rule out any cognitive biases on my part. It feels as though the Akurate is slightly more coherent and the Hakai sl...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
The 30 min re-warm period is really interesting. I'd have said 10-15 mins to re-stabilise, but it's clear that it takes a little longer and having the objective data to back it up is brilliant! Let me clarify: I found the multimeter reading on the Tundra Mono trim pot was still out after about 5-10...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Fredrik, who told you which was which? Or did you cheat and look at the videos as well as listen?! Yes, the first of each pair is my ADS/3, and the second is HAKAI. In the clips it has a N3050N-D2P motherboard, as the 3150 is suspect and the J3455 failed. It seems to have lost its earlier "thin" sou...

Thank you Spannko! Your hypothesis fits well with my observations, the number two clips have in all cases been immediately after a power-down and cable change. I will experiment further tomorrow.
