Re: Status in the world of hifi

I think you are right. The focus has changed. In the old days it was as much an investigation into the human nature and what makes us react emotionally as it was about the sound itself. Today focus has shifted much more towards sound itself. The wisdom in the old thinking is being abandoned for what...

Lovely old Sondek

With all the new things happening to the Sondek it is always worth remembering how it looked and sounded like in the early days:

thank you for all your help - you made me smile what I meant yesterday when I said expectation „bias“ - I meant something like the double slit experiment (you can google it if you are interested) I know it. I have always been interested in science. I studied physics and chemistry before I jumped la...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

did you expected the tip beeing the better? I am not speaking about expectation bias - because than we would not be able to hear a difference ... but I would like to know. No expectations whatsoever. I just tried my luck and found the brush being better than the rubber I used before. With my weird ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

even though I think its crazy to hear a difference its tip for me too I might come up with something strange too but need to do recordings first It is not crazy. :-) The difference in the room is very clear as in the clips. “Side” is a bit like the “high end” system I have never wished for and “tip...

Thank you for the answers guys!

I do like the “side” clip but can follow your answers. I will experiment further.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Great to hear a new system tokenbrit! :-) Not easy as there is not much for me to hang my hat on. The emotion in her voice? The singing violin? The natural sound from a drum kit? The interplay between the musicians? ;-) I go with defender and charlie1. B Thanks for the feedback. If you don't mind, ...

Okay, as we now are trained in having several comparisons going at the same time I will continue my hunt. The question is what part of the carbon fibers I shall use as support point for the cd power cable. Using the tip of the carbon brush fibers (tip): https://www.dropbox.com/s/mrckikqn2gvvyb3/Vide...

Re: Some observations from cd replay

Just today I have started teaching via facetime and it went well. Another thing that is going well is listening to music using my cd player. As my setup just gets better and better all my above reservations seem to vanish. A year ago I would have given my NAD 542 away for nothing. Now I fear how lon...

I agree with charlie1. How you get these improvements is baffling! What, exactly, did you do? And already now I can hear it is going to get better with my newly bought lejonklou volex power cord. Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I prefer option B. It has it’s dance shoes on. Maybe less precise? but the music becomes my focus instantly.

Option A is to me a little more matter of fact in it’s presentation.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Me and my system are one of a kind: weird! :-) That comes with always trying to do things differently. I still think that when using a normal preamp (like most people do) ones system is largely immune to big changes in sound with my kind of setup changes. There is still something about “before” I li...
