Can you say what version this is? Aluminium or resin 3k-array?
Updated upper bass (2006f) or previous version?
Thanks, K.

Sorry for the confusion - I realise to have expressed myself too shortly. It is clear that a standard balanced connection is as described. But the GAC-3 has an additional third conductor within the shield (as opposed to the standard two, so in total there are 4 electrical connections including shiel...

so far is Gotham GAC-3. Thanks for comments. I'll give the GAC-3 a try as a first approach. How did you configure the cable? With the third conductor connected to ground or just left unconnected? Timing is my biggest concern, too. The connection is just for a sub, but I fear that even for this limi...

Cable for balanced NF
A companion query to the XLR plugs: What kind of cable is OK for a balanced connection in Linn environment? I realised that Linn offers the 'silver' cable as a balanced version, but not the black cable - despite offering a 'black balanced' 1.2 m cable with plugs. Is it known what kind of cable is us...

XLR plugs for Linn balanced
I prepare for a test of a Linn speaker which uses a balanced connection for the bass. Looking for XLR plugs, I see that the variety is large and gold or silver plated is an option. Is there any advice for a good XLR plug? Is it known what kind of plug Linn uses for their XLR cables? Thanks in advanc...

dynamic and spanned volume
Has anybody tried whether a conversion to a dynamic volume, and spanned volume under W7 makes any difference to a basic primary one?
Only one data SSD is too small by now and for convenience I would like to use more than one disk as one volume, if music is not compromised by this.

Thanks for comments, and best wishes for the new year, too. The type of secateur mentioned seems to be common for garden tools, right?, and is at hand here, nice idea. I will have a try when redoing the speaker cables for my mobile system. With respect to cable management – hmm, there’s not really s...

As a slightly more extended ‘Thank you’ here are some pics of the successful installation. Apart from the thread question, the forum was of great help to find the Aktiv Cards and a A4200 amp, so thanks to everybody involved! I decided to use ‘K200’ as speaker cables and to route it with as much dist...

Yes, it seems so as if it is best to use the same RAM for rip/rec and playback. When we exchanged a few RAMs to evaluate them, Jiddu and I came to different conclusions what to prefer. We do not dare any longer to transfer data files for listening tests, so each of us used own rips/recs. Our initial...

RAM
Some small news from the RAM business: When checking some RAMs, it became evident that the performance of a RAM differs according to the fact whether this same RAM had been used for recording/ripping or another one. To fully evaluate a RAM it is therefore necessary to use it for rec/rip _and_ playba...

Linn Aktiv card installation question
I'm in the process to 'aktivate' my A242/4200 combination. The installation of the cards is easy (double sided posts, plus screws). I also know the relation between in/output positions and amps. But I forgot whether the 5-wire input cable has to be disconnected from the mainboard and has to be conne...

I didn't realise the FD fan was supposed to be better sounding than no fan? Any suggestions for a 15mm thick 80mm silent fan? It is not so that 'any fan will do'. Different fans result in different sound. Altering the fan speed also results in sound differences. My idea is that this is due to the p...

how well the Trampolin feet work. The feet make a surprising (?) difference in the situation here. It is better when using them. My experience is that one has to test for each item individually whether or not it likes the Trampolin feet. I could not detect any rule or guideline as e.g. SMD or not, ...

As some others here I felt that existing case designs do not meet our requirements for the LSNAS too well. A possible solution is below. An important requirement is to have the mainboard horizontal and also to be able to operate it upside down or not. The need for structural rigidity is self evident...

My confusion with respect to where the OS should be placed (SSD/HDD) for best results has decreased a little. The key seems to be power consumption and not the fact alone where the OS is located. I simply tested the OS an a SSD (I320, separate from data SSDs) and rechecked its performance when an ad...

I always use a separate disk for the sound files, with the OS on another. The OS was mostly on a smallish Intel 320, 128 GB or so. The sound files are on 300 and 600 GB Intel320. This is to be able to compare several mainboards without the need to copy the sound files. For each mainboard I use a ded...

Have to correct myself: It is not the RAM, but the location of the OS what makes the difference whether a copy sounds better than the recording file in my system. With the OS on the I320 SSD, the copy sounds better. Thats my normal setup. Running short of SSDs (one for each mainboard), I thought it ...
