Re: Exakt

I actually think that Linn was way ahead of its time when they launched the Exakt technology. They where, in fact, the pioneers in the now so popular field of alternate facts, in the new post truth world. That they finally solved the most damaging problem in music reproduction was totaly fake news ...

Re: Exakt

Thanks for the extra info and clarifications ThomasOK and for clearing up my paranoia! The comparison of the 2 approaches with the 242 would've been interesting to hear. I can't agree that fewer crossover points leading to easier blending between drivers. Blending between drivers of closer character...

Re: A move and a challenge

This house has baseboard heat and my Spendor speakers have a low rear port... Is the output from a rear speaker port meant to reflect into the room, or is it meant to diffuse & disperse rather than reinforce the forward facing output from speakers? If it is intended to reflect then I should be look...

What were the tweaks to the A4200 you mentioned please tokenbrit? Was it the board, case and earthing torquing or something else?

Re: Exakt

A very interesting post ThomasOK, thanks. Unfortunately some of the earlier posts you mentioned were moderated out of existence on a whim (or at least I should say were deleted on the basis of some rules that weren't relevant to the vast majority of the posts) so can't be referenced. I am aware you ...

Re: JBL 4645C

An Exaktbox 6 has 2x 3 channels when used in stereo. So, if you considered a 3677 horn tweeter, 3677 mid-bass and a 4645 sub driver as effectively a 3-way design then you can use this one Exaktbox to drive 2x 3 way speakers. You would have to define a fixed physical relationship between the 3677 and...

Re: JBL 4645C

I've just read that linn are releasing Exakt.Design next month. It's the software which enables you to design Exakt crossovers. And best of all - it's free! So I can configure a filter with output to: - 3677 horn? - 3677 bass driver? - 4645c sub? With ALL settings according to my taste? They finall...

Or just enjoy what you have CB. Looks fantastic and I expect produces what you want to hear.

The JBL isn't to everyone's taste (musically or physically or both) and neither is the M140 of course. Only choose if you've heard them and like them, not because a forum tells you to have them.

Re: Where does all this leave the first time hifi buyer?

Its a fair observation beck. All percentages to illustrate the point - not scientific nor researched. I suspect the vast majority of buying decisions (in the UK at least) are made on the basis of the number of stars given in What Caravan magazine or online reviews at the retailers' websites. In volu...

Re: Forum issues are discussed here

I also wish you luck in proving that a good source guarantees a good Tune Dem. I gave examples where this was clearly not true. A good source in a good system is absolutely going to be the thing to focus on to improve and get an even better Tune Dem, but couple a good source with unlistenable compo...

Re: Forum issues are discussed here

RTM Thanks for your thoughts. Good to see your contributions, I thought you had stopped contributing as you didn't respond in the 3677 thread to correct the stuff you posted as facts which clearly weren't facts. Here you mention room correction again, even though it wasn't part of the discussion abo...

Re: Forum issues are discussed here

A point of order, raised in the spirit of this recent chunk of moderating. As far as I can see, the forum rules make no mention whatsoever of Tune Dem. I assume that is because Tune Dem was someone else's idea and is possibly subject to some kind of IPR protection. So if you're going to get on whate...

Re: Forum issues are discussed here

As far as I recall there were maybe 6 or so posts that referred to Tune dem. Nearly all of them said why / how it was a good idea or a good contribution to evaluating a system. Why delete dozens of posts, many of them about the various attributes of the 3677, why they work for some people, was their...

Re: Forum issues are discussed here

About 4 weeks of discussion have been cut from the JBL3677 thread. Fine with that as it was way off topic. A couple of contributors (including myself) noted very early on that it was going off topic and suggested the content be moved to a new thread. Would it be possible to move off-topic to new thr...

Standard bases.

FYI: the polymer bases (they're not Kustone) are easily spotted as they have a hole in each corner of the top of the base to get to the spikes for adjustment.
