Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions
We're all agreed on here that source is most important. So why is it that 90%, for the sake of argument, has been captured at the source in the last 20 years in 24/96 or 24/192 is considered more musical when it has been through many processes to become 16/44.1 or a wiggle pressed into a disc? The o...

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions
BTW can we better understand if the clocking effect of digital capture (the "grid" as you phrase it) actually affects the timing of the music? It cuts the waves into slices then rebuilds them in the same order. 44,100 times a second (or more). With a piece of music at 120bpm as an example (2 beats ...

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions
... So, what happens with “noise” that is an essential part of music’s acoustical landscape? Is it a risk that it is interpreted as jitter or unwanted noise when transferred to ones and zeros, by filters in the pressing, in the streaming services or by our digital devices? Edited the quote down for...

Re: Linn Launch Event
Another new Klimax DSM review: https://www.grammo.co.uk/klimaxreview I find it a bit unnerving that one could easily replace “KDSM(2021)” with “Karousel” in the review. The “improvements” and challenges read remarkably similar! I genuinely hope this isn’t true. Unnerving? Or comforting that the mus...

3) Streaming services are, with 1 and 2 above applied, in general more musical than listening to the same music stored on a NAS, even when the files on the NAS are higher in resolution than what the streaming services offer. We should all try and find out how these services are delivering this, so ...

Go really careful if you're going to solder to the switch - its body plastic melts with very little heat. Perhaps solder female spades on to the wires rather than soldering direct.

I'm using 4x Tundra Stereos in my active music / AV system. I don't have the pre-amp issue as the surround processing is done inside the Akurate EDSM.

Hi snatex, just be aware that the order in which you install the cards makes a difference. I once felt that Ninkas with passive 6100 was more cohesive than aktiv. But advise followed on this site lead me to re-install the cards in a different order and then aktiv was always as good or better. Also,...

Re: Lejonklou pre into Linn Majik DSM
Nothing before the pre-amp would change its capabilities nor what is is adding or taking away from the music. What may change is your ability to hear what that component is doing - in theory a better pre-amp will expose its positives and negatives. This is a fundamental part of why source first is i...

For those of us at Akurate spending levels, this statement on the Linn website may be of concern: "Next-generation Klimax DSM completes the Linn DSM family line-up of Klimax DSM, Selekt DSM and Majik DSM" Yes, I am sure they will ditch the Akurate line. Matt This will make the transition to Lejonkl...

Anybody heard the Boazu with Akudoriks? Can the Boazu handle the Akudoriks well? Opinions-preferation about Boazu-MDSM2 as streamer-Akudoriks against Tundra-MDSM2 as streamer and preamp-Akudoriks? Yes, I am sure they will ditch the Akurate line. Matt With Selekt offering a Katalyst option, it fits well into the range. I suspect Selekt format modular Exaktboxes and power amps along with the demise of Akurate. Selekt will be upgraded to Organik as well with perfromance better than Akurate. So ...

Apparently the current Klimax DS and DSM will continue in parallel, although its not clear for how long.
The new one is called Next Gen Klimax DSM.

Re: Linn Launch Event
I noticed the term DAC distortion! So digital perfection is not perfect. :-) It depends what is meant by "DAC". A DAC chip is digital on the input. A DAC product that turns digital into analogue has analogue components and therefore distortion. So a DAC product (rather than the chip itsself) is pro...

Of course, whether you thought it was classier would depend on how much you like fancy knobs/dials/lights. There's been a few people I've known that really like components with buttons to push, knobs to turn, and switches to switch. And many times, evaluated a component by how many it had (more was...

Re: Boazu with Majik140
I have a “problem” with SO which I find hard to understand, yet alone describe! It goes along the lines of: A rooms reverberation time (RT) is purely a function of the room. Reducing the bass output at a room mode frequency doesn’t reduce the RT, it just shifts the level down a bit, making the room...

Re: Boazu with Majik140
The amount of distortion is of close to zero practical relevance. What kind of distortion is nearly all that matters. Some we can't stand, yet it's hardly measurable. Some we don't mind, yet it's massive. If this wasn't the case, everyone would hate vinyl, all amplifiers would sound the same and th...
