Re: When is an LP12 not an LP12?

To me personally this is not a useful question. You should ask yourself what kind of Sondek you find a fulfilling experience for you to listen to. The Sondek has changed focus along the way and I have my own favorite. The question should be: “When is an LP12 not your kind of LP12”? All this is just ...

Do you know why vinyl sounds like it sounds?

This is the question you can get the answer to if you tap in at 15 min 30 sec! :-) Interesting but is it true? Comparing Nagra cd player with SME turntable playback. https://youtu.be/zaeugL-1QJo I notice that bass from cd sounds unnatural compared to vinyl in this setup (like I have noticed at home ...

Re: What do we know?

Thank you Thomas for getting me back on track.

My cd days are coming to an end. Despite great sound I never feel fulfilled when listening.

I know I only have one way to go:

I have to get back into vinyl! (plural) :-)

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Thank you for sharing your clips with us Charlie1. It is worth GOLD to those who listen and see how much effort it takes to get the best out of ones system.

May it inspire others to take up the challange! :-)

Re: Makes of Speaker Cable

Hi Starman

If you have looked around (and listened) on this forum you will know that many here uses old Linn cables for the speakers (k400 and k20).
I would not personally invest in new equipment (cables) before a long and heavy period of focus on setup.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I agree Charlie1. The first clip lets me forget the “hifi” more than the last. If someone is thinking why I go on when I more than once have stated that I have finished my setup I can only say that each time I think I have reached the end new thoughts creap into my mind on how to improve it even fur...

Good work with the Kan II stands. I like them better now as well. Lovely present voices to be heard.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

A follow up: As tokenbrit pointet out there is something really lovely about the voice in the second clip. I really like listening to it. I hope I can get some of it back in my final setup. After some minor setup adjustments I can now go to my closing statements: Without the proces of making the cli...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

The first felt a little 'gentle'; the third felt a little insistent, esp the guitar; the second just felt better balanced between her (endearing) voice & (other) instruments. I feel like I am very near optimal setup of the cd player (in my stand and system) but not completely satisfied with any of ...

Re: Setting up loudspeakers for the best tune

Hi Tendaberry, I am living in a Linn/Tune Dem "diaspora". Actually you are the closest I know of and you are always welcome to visit me (I am still 400km away in Thuringia). I might ask for a tune dem demo at a Linn dealer in Erlangen to be sure what I do is consistant with tune dem. Actually Posit...

Re: What do we know?

Only speaking for myself I have had a range of systems with turntables and cd players side by side since the late 1980s and despite bad setup and low quality turntables the analog sound has always been the driving force in my listening. So something is different to me......... Maybe I am extra sensi...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Thank you for your input Thomas. It is always appreciated.

The interesting part of my investigation is that the only thing I change is the placement of the cd players powercable and how it is supported (or not). :-)

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

It is always interesting to hear how the sound from a system evolves for the better (hopefully). What kind of changes can be heard? I think you will find them interesting. Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

It is fascinating how different the same system can sound with only the speaker setup changed. I look forward to this continue investigation.....

Just now I think the Keilidh stand (though not perfect) will make you buy more records..............
